  1. Friday!
  2. Most of my personal library of books has been funded by student loans. It is what it's for. Janey: it is very shocking. I'm glad the higher fees won't affect me as I just can't justify being there at that cost. there is around 25 people on the foundation degree and bsc level on my course. With similar numbers in earlier and later years Maintenance grants are available up to 2800 and maintenance loans up to similar amounts. Student finance did me out of the grant money which I could have done with because they means tested me on when my dads firm was doing well 2 years ago, it folded a year ago so the income came down a significant amount. And now they won't budge on it, parents divorced so I became dependent on my dad, we sent off the absolute in October and they still haven't sent them back after asking them 2 months ago! Rant over sorry!
  3. Oh and you shouldn't have run it over. With the bar bent you could cut round corners with it!
  4. Where did you put the chickens before you broke their coop?
  5. If you are worried about the tree splitting as it goes could you add a ratchet strap or two and get them super tight to prevent a split. Then use a normal system underneath but have a short rope to slide off the end.
  6. Deterrent isn't the aim. Just screening. There's already a 2m fence there anyway. We have a variegated Holly in our garden and it's a good looking bush! I think something like that would be the better and cheaper option. Although the hedging website gave me some good ideas!
  7. If it's any addition, on the ms271 it behaves the same. Once you let off the throttle it hesitates then runs down. I think this may be an engine management system, for example if your snedding and revving a lot then it holds them on and saves fuel. Instead of dropping all the way and having to use fuel to get the revs back up mid way it holds them and let's you keep cutting. That's how I saw it anyway!
  8. That's where I think natives will come in. There's sycamore, ash, beech, yew, Holly and birch in the garden. There's a holm oak in already. So I think a hedge version would look good. That or Holly.
  9. I was just looking at copper beech on some sites. It would need to be evergreen because schools are open when it's got no leaves on! I would like to add colour and give a good level of variation. Holly would be a good hedge idea i reckon. Keeping with the nativeness of the garden It's gonna be a long term project this one! Looking at some specimens from barchams their prices are more than I expected!
  10. Got to get a plan together for a client who wants to replace his lleylandii hedge with something nicer. Its currently covering a security fence and behind that there is a school path and a new build estate. There was the idea to plant some hedgerow trees and every 3rd tree plant a taller growing one to give the hedge different levels. I had suggested planting golden upright yew as it needs less control, but it is slow growing, and expensive! I've got a few ideas, could holm oak be managed into a hedge? He has one already and I think it would make a nice feature to the garden. It has to be evergreen to give the privacy. I've attached a few pics showing the garden and the hedge. I think the scheme of planting small and large trees would really add to the garden if they were chosen well. Something like a sergeants rowan for it's autumn colour plus it wouldn't get too big, then a golden yew hedge underneath it would add some nice colours in!
  11. Currently £3220 per year but are going up to £9k in 2012!
  12. What about one from a weaver? Similar design.
  13. The sequoia is a flat webbing. Works ok. It's not a wide one like the skylotec though Would a maillon rapide 'delta' work?
  14. There's a company in Cheshire called treefellers! How about 'dave the gardener', all types of garden work and trees lopped and topped also
  15. 330 zubat although tempted by a sugoi as I like to do a lot of silky work!
  16. do you mean on the bridge at the front? if so just buy a couple of DMM or ISC anchor rings, i added sme to my sequoia, keeps things managed!
  17. You do aswell though, although its probably less accepted! although most blokes like us wouldnt complain! weve had 20 degs here all week so far, and meant to stay that through the weekend, shorts all round!
  18. At least i got its name right, minus a letter or two! I must have learnt something after all i was unsure of its parasitic status, as ive seen it on a cherry that had fallen but was still alive, and seen it on dead willow too, so i was more inclined for sapro!
  19. Blushing bracket - Daedalopsis confragosa. Saprophyte (deadwood feeder) afaik but seen it on some weak looking trees
  20. It worked for the forest sell off. I put my name down. I'll be adding my name to this aswell. The wildlife and countryside act covers the critters which need to be protected. Including fungi!
  21. Cheers for the replies. I seem to find the 11/12 grips well and can be descended on a bit gentler because it's got a better grip. Found the 12/13 to be very slippery which I didn't feel right on as I had little control. I'll stick with the 11/12 for now but keep the 12/13 handy for my xtc ropes.
  22. Using a lockjack on poison hi vee, what's the best clutch? I've tried both, as it's a 11.7mm rope, is it best with 11/12 or 12/13 clutch? Any advice for descending or is that something to get used to?!
  23. Had a look at the cap. There was a piece of bark that had stuck to the o ring and not allowing it to make a seal at one side. Rubbed it off and no more leaking!
  24. I looked at a few options too before settling on the gm. It seemed to tick more boxes. The downsides to a gm are that there's a lack of tie down points so you have to get creative with straps! And that if it's on a slight hill it can wander as your feeding it. I tipped it back and started throwing chip over the trailer and all over the truck and everywhere around it!
  25. Bumble bees, flying tennis balls! I'm not keen on wasps. I got stung in between a couple of eyelashes when I was 4 and since then I've never liked the critters!
