  1. its probably no problem to use one. however the only thing that might crop up is "whats the point?" in a general work climb, you only have a few minutes to get around and down. all the stations have a task that wont require one and will just take time to set it up. I could say it may be ok in the masters?
  2. Without getting too technical, im not sure what the settings are? Generally on husky chains and the roller guides there is a depth guage guide attached to the side of it. Probably best to A-Identify the chain, Find it on a filing chart and read across. you could also use the operators manual and the regular catalogue for help?
  3. Just the regular white papery effort. try Tree climbing and landscaping equipment from Landmark Trading
  4. I dont have many cus im usualy taking the pics!
  5. Are you sure you've got enough rope????
  6. I thought Moulton wasnt too bad? whats gone wrong?
  7. One is twisted, one is straight????? Seriously, If you look down the shank (the long bit that runs up the leg) you will notice a twist in the metalwork, this means they are L and R specific due to the direction of turn. Straight shanks are just straight up and down. If you already have your 38 ticket, the instructor should have explained this. If you are still to go on the course, the instructor should(?) be able to provide spikes?
  8. Ho-Hum! Another thing to add to the list..........GROAN!!!!!!!
  9. Today we had a Demonstration and general overview of Oregon and the new Powersharp system. A good morning was had by all, and we would thoroughly reccommend it to anyone. Thanks Les!!
  10. try Arboricultural Association Arborist Tree Challenge they are running two confirmed and one unconfirmed comp next year. the ISA are having one big 3day event one may bank holiday weekend (not sure which) Pole climbing follows roughly the same calendar as last year, the main peeps are Littletree and Terry Bennett, they also have a facebook page. Keep an eye on the competition forums (scroll down the forum index page!!)

  13. thats like the virgin mary in a slice of toast!! you could sell it fer thousands!!
  14. NPTC units of competence in brushwood chipping operations, Unit 1 prepare chipper Unit 2 Operate chipper Unit 3 Maintain chipper Assessment date 10/7/2007 It was a good thing i was taught properly from day one, and i insist on trying hard to maintain good standards. But if thats how the system works, then the whole industry is fu'd!!
  15. My chipper test consisted of- Turn up for work one morning, boss sais meet a chap up in the yard at 10, no reason why??? Went up, bloke sais fill out the yellow test application form. pointed to a chipper, sais tell me about the safety features, stick some brash through, switch it off. Passed 100%. So yeah, the system realy works..........

  19. tell them clearing the snow is extra!
  20. just use the regular stihl file guide, it also comes in a kit!
  21. It all stems from the old days. a 3/8th chain was a 3/8th chain. and use a 7/32 file. job done. Modern technology means there are numerous pitches of chains (0.325, 3/8, 0.404) that now have different sized teeth. it means a 3/8 chain by one manufacturer may always be filed differently to another 3/8th chain. there are differences even in-house! oregon 35lg is a 0.325 chain, files with a 5/23 file. oregon 22lp is a 0.325 chain, files with a 3/16 file.
  22. Dont worry, they will bring it back when they see it wont cut........ 1, find a name written on the chain 2, Stihl chains have basic type written on depth guage, all others have basic type written on drivelink 3, use the manufacturers filing charts, find your chain and read across to find file sizes, angles, and sharpening kits used. 4, HINT - use manufacturers own tools for chain. (and for the record, a stihl 3/8th chain most commonly found on a 361 takes a 5.2mm or 13/64 file)
