Turned up on site to do some sawmilling and thought we had been detected by security camera looking like an owl ….. then it flew off into an Ash Tree !

And here conversion of trunks into beams for an green oak extension to a house the longest here 6.25m 10’’ x 12’’ thank goodness for the telehandler!

Have had a couple of jobs recently testing the limits of the sawmill here an oak trunk we milled for a client hoping to laminate quarter sawn wood to produce an item

Ok so, red line oil you know Jim then?, rollers are good and hungry but can flick short pieces of wood in a dangerous way, especially if they have no branches to steady them, care / training needed for hand feeding. Back to original q. price depends on what you are doing with the unit, if you are saving your client a fortune by chipping loads o stuff they can not manage with out you then higher £ , if you are just helping yourself out by making life easier by using the chipper it will be lower £ justify prices to suit the works, i.e. dirty building site clearance will= more wear and tare ( if not tears! ) therefore more charge, good luck J

I am in awe of the work and input to achieve the 300 seedlings you have, your observations and diligence over the years make you a ‘tree expert’ experience is the best qualification . for suggestions ideas what to do with the trees I feel it important to achieve something relevant to the provenance and area with the majority , something possibly linked in with the Jubilee, just a simple planting of 60 trees in the park to mark the occasion, a large diamond shaped planting of 60 future maidens although corny is a possibility ? I note from google there are many avenues around Windsor an extension to long walk or another avenue, it may be venue other than Windsor, ask Prince Charles he has his heart in the right place for a project of this nature , other possibilities such as involving associations such as woodland trust, arb association, Royal forestry society, etc, places of national and or royal connection such as the national memorial arboretum other arboretum throughout the country and abroad, commonwealth even . It is important that the trees go to locations where they are looked after with the support and maintenance needed to ensure there longevity, I have seen some great examples of this with the Wollemi Pine for instance. 760 in my opinion better than the later generation 200, 760 blade is mounted through the flywheel giving a better and hungrier attack especially when getting slightly blunt , slightly longer time to place the blades in the correct position compared with the 200 bolt them on the side fitting. Engine ok check for normal things smoke under load etc. electric box usually vibrates to pieces! Chassis crack at bend 1/3 along, main bearings end float and rumble , feed rollers worn out / blunt, I have a 760 bought 20 years ago was untidy and knackered then and has gone through 2 hse retro fits on the hopper safety bar 1 clutch 2 sets of main bearings but is still a good chipper used regularly ps Don’t worry about what size it will take it 6 or 7 quandary it is a chipper compared with today’s pencil sharpeners!

Most local bee keepers to you will come and take a swarm if reasonably accessible, bees have been in decline recently due to various reasons, disease, herbicide and are a valuable resource esp for pollination etc. I had one collected from 25’ up a tree the other day in Devon , enticed down into a brood box by the local keeper, and found a swarm in a cavity in a tree we were dismantling in Bedfordshire last week, we left this one in place and persuaded the client to pollard the tree and keep the bees in place.

I have a client who would like a trunk milling and looking at the cut stump and the ends on each piece of timber they already look like expanded metal ! where the wood is drying out, I have seen this before on logs/firewood and have found it quite intriguing but not given it much thought as to how this would look in sawn board situation, anyone else experienced sawing this?

I found that there was a small but consistent discount through out most products prices compared with internet prices to encourage one to buy on the day , even if not in stock at the show the supplier would send out after at the same discounted price, ps I’m past comparing all the prices on the day and missing whats on but always have a little look and buy

Botanical gardens good for a visit, shouldn’t think they’ll let you climb there tho, try a steak in the tug boat in the harbour ( if you have the funding! ) have a good w.e.
