  3. Just a quick thought to warn anybody hoping to make a visit to Hatfield House the area that contains the Hornbeam I think is not open to the public,

David where to start, firstly it is good to see a site with such an incredible portfolio that is owned and managed by people who care, I think Rik and his team are basically doing a good job by trying to take on board the management of the more important trees by using methods and application of management that they have learnt by experience and through meetings with ATF and others, my 1st experience of an ATF visit was Hatfield, it must be difficult to decide on what to do, to intervene or not, the discussions on site esp in the Hornbeam area interesting, I learnt from that, from the Lady from Hatfield forest, was not to completely re coppice Hornbeam, I thought the fences looked out of place, to formal almost, but recognise and understand the reason for them being there, possibly the stacking of brush wood or some other demarking of the area, rope as Bruchcutter suggests, educating visitors not to go to far but it is tempting to explore the hollow trunk, the fung etc. TBC I think:001_smile:

  7. Tried most of them ! hobbled out to try to take photo of frost on car roof this a.m. only just made it down the stairs, I think Barry Sheen moved to N.Z. to ease the pain , thankfully I’ve never been as damaged as he was!

  9. one from an upstairs ceiling, sun light reflected off of car roof through tree projected on to mirror and on wards! Guess the spp?

I have found it better to have a blade with a bent down end at approx. 30 /40 degrees at the end to help with cutting and mulching woody weeds such as the Oregon mulching blade OREGON® 2-Tooth, 12" (300mm) 3mm Thickness Blade I have had excellent results with heavy duty brushcutters with herbaceous plants, tough grasses even through to coppice regrowth etc.

  14. Lovely old trailer that 1 , I remember visiting trailer manufacturers and trailers in use in forests before making the recommendation to buy it ! ages me I suppose, mmmm trailer retired me not ! p.s. see you next week ed cheers

  22. 4 years is brilliant life for work boots, Classic left foot trap wood on ground whilst cutting marks! To think only used to get 6 to 9 months out of a pair of boots when they 1st came out, I wish you well with the next trial pair
