1. You're welcome, mate. I just hope it's good advice and it all works out well.
2. Read my post again. All I say is get your replacement work in place before you burn your bridges. If you talk to other firms in your area and they have no work to offer you then you need to decide whether you want to take the risk. If they offer you enough work then you know where you stand. TBH, it doesn't read to me like you owe him anything. He pays low for a very long day and you have paid for your own tickets. Employment is a two way street. He has given you work because he needed you, not to do you any favours.
3. Just tread carefully. It will be all too easy to find yourself out in the cold. As a subby, you have no employment rights to ensure continuing employment.Get your contacts made before you do anything else.
4. Regardless of whether you are happy where you are or not, as a subby you should always make contacts with other companies in the area in case of situations like this or your main employer running out of work. I learnt that one the hard way and it took me a couple of weeks to get up and running again. You might also both find yourselves in an iffy situation with HMRC if you are self-employed yet working for only one employer. At the moment, it's very much an employers market when it comes to less specialized labour so you need to tread carefully unless you can afford to be without work for as long as it would take you to find a replacement. In this situation, my approach would be to approach other companies and get some other work booked in. If you are self-employed then he has no argument when you tell him you have been booked by somebody else. If he wants to tell you that you can't be off that day, then he must be telling you that you are employed and so he should be giving you paid holidays as well as providing PPE, paying Employer's NI contributions etc. Finally, you might want to check the National minimum wage for your age. Basically, he is being an arse by behaving as he is but it's your call as to whether you gamble on calling his bluff.
5. Ash limb from tree in area where Inonotus is rife.
6. I planted a nice line of these for the local council in Thurrock when I was a subby a few years ago. Hope they are doing well.
7. We'll have to try that one next time we visit.
8. Nice and cool this morning after heavy rain and thunder/lightning last night. Was funny to see everybody at the show start suddenly packing up as the rain started building over Kent yesterday.
9. If you are in Edinburgh and fancy a very good curry, go to the Kebab Mahal in Nicholson Square.
10. Good to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Thanks to Eggs and Wolfie for looking after a strimmer left for me and good to meet the Nomadic team.
11. Probably best not to, mate.
12. Blimey, I thought my one was bad.
13.
Hi Pat. Tractor62 says he has left a strimmer with you for me. I'll be there before lunch so, if I don't see you before, 1pm at the Arbtalk stand?

14. Will be down there this morning mate (as soon as I can get a chance at the shower here ) so I will try to find you. If I haven't found you by 1 o'clock, I'll meet you by the ArbTalk stand.
15. At least you haven't got somebody who thinks you can use a strimmer to do crown lifts and prune soft fruit bushes. Mind you, neither have I..............anymore.
16. Have to say, I think it would be a nightmare for the groundie.
17. Sorry to hear that , mate. I'm sure I could get them to you via one of the usual suspects.
18. You not there for the evening? Planning on tenting up for a few beers that night.
19. I have a pair of Haix boots in size 12 which had a split in the sole which has been repaired with glue by my local menders. Apart from the split, they are in good condition with plenty of tread left on the sole. After claiming on the warranty and receiving a new pair without argument, I thought somebody on here might be able to use the fixed pair. If you want them, all they will cost you is a donation to the Children's Trust. I will be at Jonesies show for collection, they can be picked up from me near Southend on Sea or they can be posted at cost. Any takers?
20. You can't have liked it that much. There's still a pattern on the plate.
21. If you are having to ask, James, get the power people in. Not worth the risk.
22. Pretty sure that the 5% VAT is to end-user so I reckon you are right too.
23. Sorry mate, it's going home with me. I will be coming down after work on Friday so I can collect it then if you are there, Tractor62. If not, I'm sure somebody will look after it for me until I get there. What I will have for you, Alec, is some beer to say 'Thank You' for your help with my orchard project.
24. The main point is that a gun requires your input and to post a warning saying trespassers will be shot is completely out of the question. A dog, however, is a living thing which, if you are not present at the time of trespass (assuming not Breaking and Entering) and trespassers are warned that (a) they are not invited in so are therefore trespassers and (b) there are dogs loose on the premises, makes the matter Occupier's Liability as opposed to a Firearms Offence. By them entering where they are trespassing and you warning of the danger inside, the odds are rather on your side if it came to court. It's all about that wonderful legal definition 'reasonable'.
