  1. The cone does work well, if you can get all the butts of the brush in to it. I find that after stacking a big enough pile to make it worth winching, that until the winch has pulled the chains tight you cant get the butts in the cone, and on timber it can only go up to the size of the cone. OK if you are doing skinny stuff. It also is prone to being pulled of the side of the log if you are trying to turn it at the same time. Havent tried the larger drum. Hope it dosnt decrease the power too much. Havent tried it in a skyline setup, although I would like too as I think it would work well.
  2. If its the same as ours, its a ton pull. Pretty good, be carefull of the wear plate beside the capstan, it will wear pretty quick if doing alot of long pulls, and can get very sharp and will cut ropes easy. I find the nose cone more hassle than its worth. My other tip is get as much lift as you can, the other tree mount is good for this, as the rope can be directed up the anchor tree, through a block and down to the load. Removes alot of the friction in the drag. Good luck, it can get tedious waiting for it.
  3. I agree! Even the low end of these figure's is optimistic.
  4. Already here, have called all the companies in the Christchurch/ Canterbury phonebook. Just hoping someone out here had any info really.
  5. Still looking, really trying for the South Island. Treetech are a no go as of yet. I have managed to get some stuff for a small outfit in Chch, but its not enough and the gang are very inexperienced, with little kit. So hoping for something better.
  6. Thanks guys, great info. CraigD, I have sent you a PM. Paddy

  8. cheers for the reply, i'm from newcastle upon tyne, but been working in london this past year. thanks march is a possibility as coming out for at least a year. I will be calling all the companies when I arrive anyway just to make sure. Paddy
  9. atree- are there any more positions at your company going? Preferably climbing. I am coming to Christchurch in a couple of weeks and keen to get straight into work. Thanks Paddy
  10. Any photos of work back then? Would love to see them.
  11. How does this compare in the hand to other 11mm ropes? Such as Blaze and Velocity? Paddy
  12. Hi there Tom, I am after a little help on some work at my mums place in Berwick, I need some chipping done and some stumps ground out, wondered if you could give me an idea of price, its about half an hour of chipping, and I think 10 stumps, ranging from 15dbh, up to around 80dbh. Most are small though. Its all conifer, some scots, some spruce and a little cypress. I would think its a couple of hours grinding, no need to back fill as need to fill with soil as in the lawn, and I will take care of all tidy up. Its just off the A1 towards Coldstream. Access is great. If you want to take a look aswell thats ok.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  14. Hi there, whats the work to do? where exactly is it? I have all your requirements. paddy
  15. I want a left handed one too.
  16. Any piece of webbing i find in the workshop thats long enough, stick a knot with a ring in at one end, and fishermans onto a krab at the other end.
  17. have sent you a pm. paddy
  18. I like it, dosn't really glaze at all I find. Very grippy, so may not self tend too well. That set up looks a bit long maybe? With mine I use a 3/3 VT. I think the cord is about 750mm.
  19. The only other short term option is to tie a bowline or double figure 8 with a big loop, so the bulk of the know sits above your hitch. Putting your rope onto the middle hope can help too as it makes the hc sit back a bit. I too used to have a rope with no splice, but it just dosn't work right.
  20. You should be using a low profile termination, either a splice or a sewn eye. They dont recomend the use of knots for this very reason.
  21. Heres some pics of this weeks work. Dead oak fell, scots pine fell, willow fell, and a pollard on the horse chestnut. Good couple of days.
  22. I've got one too, great little saw for the money, strop attachment is a bit rubbish, but great for what it is. I use it on the the smaller reductions and deadwoods too.
  23. This is my kit, also in Trading Place. Arborist, Tree Surgeon, Tree Climbing Kit. Marlow Petzl on eBay (end time 20-Mar-10 19:07:06 GMT)
