  1. Looks slick Reg! Do you fill it easily in a day by yourself? Plannig to visit the island soon, recommendations on places to visit? Thanks Paddy.
  2. I use a pair of stihl battery belt suspenders. Nice and wide, I attach them with 3 wire gate biners.
  3. Recent fir to remove from behind a house. The tree was on a steep loose bank so we used a crane for the wood.
  4. I place both above the block, once you have a piece hanging from the block you could feasibly damage your climb line through friction from the rigging line. Or the rigging line could pinch your climb line to the tree making any further movement impossible. Place the block low enough to ensure you aren't in danger of your tie ins coming off, but high enough so as to minimise the drop of the piece.
  5. Yep, both of those are in the Whistler, BC area. The single tree pic is from the other side of the valley from the ski area, clearing a landing for private helicopters, the pic with 2 guys, I am in the right one, and my boss is in the left. I'm also waiting for my next visa atree.
  6. Not todays, but a couple of recent jobs.
  7. Yep try the big companies if you need sponsorship. Or if you are certain you want to emigrate then get the process started yourself, with your experience and qualifications you should get in via the federal skilled trades program. Paddy.
  8. This! and a couple of x-rings.
  9. Nice new truck Reg. Is it an auto though? I'd like to replace my Ram 1500 with a diesel.
  10. Thanks, haven't got a new one sorted yet, I missed out one the first round of the IEC by a couple of minutes. Hope to get in the next round. Cheers.
  11. Isn't Silverstreak a different taper pattern, I seem to recall it being 20 strand?
  12. Some from today and yesterdays clearance work.
  13. The newer ones are called Francital Cervin, look good to me.
  14. I see treekit have some new Francital trousers, maybe worth a punt? Sevsafe sell them too.
  15. How did you attach it to the bed?
  16. Its been available in the states for years. I dont think it has CE whatever it needs to be sold in the UK.
  17. You want to call Devon Tree Services, based in Ipplepen, very good firm.
  18. I have been here for about 9 months now. Although I had lived here before a while ago. Sponsorship is a great option, but it ties you to an employer, and can take a while to get all the required documents etc. A Canadian employer has to prove they cant find a Canadian for the job. IEC to get in, find an employer you like, and then get them to sponsor you once your visa expires is a great way to stay here for a while.
  19. Express Entry is not a working holiday program, it's a new system for applying for permanent residency. The IEC is the only working holiday visa, the other alternative is getting "sponsored". Get a job offer from a company, and they will help get a visa for you. Arborist alone I doubt will qualify you for express entry, as I understand, we first need to have 12 months of in Canada work experience. Seems a few are waiting of tenterhooks for the IEC to be released, myself included.
  20. Looks to me like it is for permanent residency, not a working holiday type visa. Still good for those who want to get in and stay quickly, could be a resident within 6 months!
  21. Nice job. I like that a zip line keeps most of the mess in 1 spot too, save on raking. What's the chip truck? Cheers.
  22. Nice work. Whats the thinking behind the 550? So you can avoid a change of saw when you are blocking down? Paddy.
  23. Nice tall tree there Reg. Are your heights based on rope lengths? Or educated guesses? I find with the tall firs, if its amongst other trees it often looks shorter than it is, especially if you cant get far from the base. Haven't had to rig wood all summer. Cheers.

    Summer 2014

Looks like a good summer Reg! I've thoroughly enjoyed my BC summer. Our trees maybe aren't quite as tall, with the heavy winters in Whistler, but still regularly top 130ft. I should try and make a video next summer.
  25. I would like to see a bib and brace offered by someone tree work related. No drip down your waist then! But to answer the original question. Elasticated waist, a zip at least to just below the knee, some way of getting to trouser pockets, good reinforcement in key areas. As a tall skinny guy, I would like to see them cut in a variety of lengths for all waist sizes.
