1. Its the powerless thing that does it isnt it.
2. Airsickness? I never suffer, but have to admit by the end of the 40min flight I was glad to touch down. I was staring to get queasy. We stayed at a campsite just out of town right on the beach.
3. Its a cool place for sure. I had a quick visit this past summer. About half way between Port Alberni and the Ucluelet junction there are some awesome swimming pools with lots of rocks to jump off. Needs to be alot warmer though. Did go up in that float plane in your picture too.
4. Bump, have short term availability due to a full weeks cancellation. Thanks.
5.
Hi James. I am writing to you in response to your canadian query. Have you secured your work visa as thats the vital first step. I live and work in Whistler. You wont have much luck with tree work that late in the year as work stops in november when the snow arrives. The standard of climbing is really quite high, and you are certainly expected to work hard. There is a good number of english arborist around vancouver, and I would think with your experience this would be a good place to start. The certs dont have much value, but your knowledge and apptitude are important. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Paddy.

6. also interested to meet other small operations interested in teaming up for bigger projects. Thanks.
7. Nice, usefull for stuff thats going to get abused aswell. Joe look on ebay, there is a place in the north east sells all sizes and lengths. Something like North East Rope Services.
8. Currently looking for freelance/subcontract work in the above areas. I have been climbing trees for 8yrs, around the UK, NZ, and Canada. I hold NPTC 30, 31, 38, 39, 41. ND in Forestry and Arb, C+E driving licence. Well versed in most aspects of treework, domestic, site clearance, woodland thinning. No powerlines. I have all of my own gear, saws and 4x4, however my top handle saw is currently mid atlantic en route from BC. I'm sure a few members would be happy to vouch for my work. If I can be of any use, be it a day or a month please contact at [email protected] Many Thanks Paddy Vero.
9. Well you can just tie a fig 8 into the bite to create a loop, it works with a bite, but wont hold body weight on the ropes I have, maybe with a supple grippy rope?
10. Bachmann hitch? Requires a biner though.
11. Awesome!
12. This mornings Cottonwood removal. Had the powerline dropped, but the cable guys never showed so didnt help anyway. Photos at 8.30, and 11. [ame] [/ame]
13. We took down a big fir today. On a steep bank so built a pterodactyl nest for the chunks. About 36" dbh, only 52 years old. The site was logged in the late 60's. [ame] [/ame]
14. Nice work. Glad to hear you are enjoying the work. I was supprised aswel when I arrived how quickly the trees came down.
15. Try Clogger, they are from NZ or Aus.
16. Thats a really nice example Reg. Bet its bouncy empty.
17.

Hi, well done no the new chipper. I am wondering if you traded in your CS100 or are selling it? I'm from the north east and looking for a micro chipper.

Id test.

Wingnut?
19. No worries. My only other advise would be to be conservative in your estimation of your skills to a possible employer and let them figure out where you are at. The work is very different to the uk in alot of ways. Watch some of Reg's videos, that will show you a good range of the work out here.
20. Yeh I found it pretty easy. I secured my first job from England. English climber's are generally well regarded and in demand in Vancouver. Do you have a work visa? If not, get one and a plane ticket and you will be fine.
21. Hi Ed, I currently live you here, although heading back to the UK soon. There are a few firms in Squamish, and 1 full time in Whistler. No tree work in Whistler from december to march though. There are tons of tree firms in vancouver though. The work is good, but almost exclusivly conifers. Good luck.
22. Cheers Adam, I'll be in touch.
23. I would do a bunch of slings and crabs, the wear on the line is minimal, than have some cheapo cord to pull them back, but you would only have to retrieve every 20 cuts. ( or however many slings you had). You can always sling multiple slings to 1 biner aswell. I buy tape off the reel and tie tape knots to make loops.
24. Thanks. This is an amazing place to live and work for sure. Silky I'm from Berwick, haven't lived there for quite a long time though. Will be contract climbing around the north east and borders, or anywhere interesting.
25. Thanks Silky. They will be the last BC tree pics for a while as my work visa has run out, so I will be heading home to the north east for a while. Hope to be back here next year ish.
