  1. You are correct, Hama, about the dedicated design of the EF-S cameras - but the lens (even the EF-S ones) is still labelled in the 'traditional' form ie. for 35mm or fill sized sensors.
  2. It's also worth remembering, Dean, that the sensor on your 40D increases a lens' range by a factor of 1.6. So a 28mm-135mm lens will perform like a 45-216mm lens. You loose on the wide angle and gain on the telephoto.
  3. And how much money are you willing to spend?
  4. Stevie, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments BUT I think that from around 3pm onward today, theremay be some (southerly) colleagues whose stress levels may reach new heights! All the best for today lads.
  5. Parklawn Tree Services? They're a Roscommon company, aren't they? How far into the north-west are you, Rowan Lee?
  6. Old ropes can be more difficult to work with, Rob.
  7. You should consider ESS Advancer goggles. They're used by troops in dessert campaigns. Adjustable ventilation, three interchangable lens colours. Made with ballistic polycarbonate. Less than £20 on Ebay.
  8. I've been taking part in the Breeding Bird Survey for about 11 years now. I've been surveying the same three X 1km squares on moorland / woodland near my home. I also take part in the breeding seabird surveys on the north Irish coast and some general habitat surveys in Donegal which feed data into the Corncrake surveys.
  9. Can either of you two explain how a company incorporates inclusionality to its environmental program? I ask in honest ignorance.
  10. Not quite an answer, David. But I carry out a few bird surveys each year for the BTO. The fluctuations of some species is dramatic and, although we don't have nuthatches in Ireland, I know what you mean about missing birds that were once common. Have you considered taking part in the surveys yourself?
  11. Nice images, John. Leaving the technicalities aside, I'd offer comments on the composition. 1. Leave more 'space' in front of the riders - allowing them to move forward into it - and less space behind them. 2. On some shots, frame extra space above or to the side of the subject. This space is best if it is fairly mundane. This is very useful when selling the image as a front cover ( room for a title ) - or even offering it as a local bike club news letter. It's always good to view your images, thanks again. Dee
  12. What about marking the gate-end that opens with tape? (If that's what you were asking.)
  13. You might consider getting a set of close-up lens (supplementary lens) for your lens. Each is a screw-on 'addition' to your own lens. They're available in different strengths and if you're experimenting without a big budget - they might be worth a look. Dee
  14. What lens are you currently using on your EOS camera?
  15. Hi Otter, do you still have those side straps on offer? If they're what I'm thinking of, I might be interested.

    Let me know.

    Dee.

  16. I'm not sure about that. If landowners (garden ownwers) had no obligation to keep their property safe, then you - as a neighbour with children possibly - would have to rely on their sense of fairness, without any support from the law. And if people were not too concerned about managing their trees, would we be doing what we do?
  17. YOU CAN CUT THAT OUT - RIGHT NOW!
  18. "We aim to please, sir." Good luck.
  19. OK, Hama. Let's see if this works! Create a seperate slide for your title. On the next slide, type ALL of your bullet points. Choose the first bullet point, that you want to appear, by HIGHLIGHTING it. Go to 'animation' and 'slide transition'. Choose an 'entrance'. (The type of transition that you want). Once completed, you should have the first bullet point where you want it. Then HIGHLIGHT point two, and repeat. If this doesn't work it will probably just be a small difference in Power-Point editions. So fiddle about with it - or get back to me. Dee
  20. They're not Presbyterian then .... eh?

    Apple wood

Thanks for the advice, Nepia. I'll follow up your suggestion. But as for the Wet West, I'm in Ireland. A bit more wet and a bit more west, unfortuntately!

    Apple wood

Thanks for those, Ian and Dela. I hadn't even considered those ideas!
  23. A good discussion point, Hama. Is this connected to your recently-started studies? For my own two-pennies worth, I fear that the majority will have the day here. The public, who may not know all that is neccesary, will always err on the side of caution (or litigation) - a felled tree won't take you to court. Yes, a way forward may be education and a more realistic way of evaluating 'risk', ie. the danger of driving to the woods compared to then walking in the woods, but we come back to the question - How will this be done, and who will orchestrate it? I think that if this thread doesn't do anything else, it will at least allow Arbtalk members to display the varied views, on the value of trees, that they will have witnessed from the public over the years. Good luck, Dee.

    Apple wood

Does anyone know if there is much of a market in apple wood? I know that small bags of applewood chips are sold for BBQ-ing, but apart from that - 'I know nothing!' Thanks, Dee.
