  1. Yep, get some pics up. I know I'm a horseman but theres something about a plane that makes me stop and watch. I used to live in Lincolnshire, nr Waddington, I always enjoyed the jets taking off, and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight would be over us all through the summer, not forgetting The Red Arrows as well, rehearsing all through the winter. I knew a farmer whose farmhouse and buildings were just off the end of the runway, he told me that as a boy he would watch the bombers take off in World War 2. Waddington airfield was built along with many others in that area on what the locals call, "The Cliff", anyway, the bombers would sometimes be so heavily laden they could not take off, the pilots would pull up the undercarriage whilst the wheels were still on the ground and the plane would fly off the end of the runway about 20ft off the ground, he said they would then drop out of sight as they "fell" off The Cliff into the vale below, he said it always seemed like an eternity before they rose up into view again. I was going to say bloody brave men, but they were little more than boys in many cases. Heroes!
  2. You have pm, but I made a cock up with previous post, should have been 150 tonne, not acres.
  3. Does anyone know what it burns like, in relation to other softwoods, larch for example? Theres 150 acres of the stuff, just wanting to know if there may be a bit more money for firewood rather than pulp.
  4. Have to say mine is working well, I always ask a new customer how they "found" me. Many of them say the internet, but they ar'nt aware that they have come through the Arbtalk directory, it is a definate winner as far as I am concerned.
  5. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with Silver and Grand Fir, a lovely stand, tall, barrel straight and the mill dos'nt want to know
  6. Had a chap flashing his lights at me today, thinking there was something wrong I pulled over, got out and he pulled in behind me, "how much are yer logs mate", £80 a cube says I. "Whats that then", well it's a metre square, you know, height, length, width. "Oh like a ton bag", yes "Evans at ******* is doing them at £30 a bag", I said "so thats where you'll be getting yer wood from then, all the best, jumped in me pick up and started to drive off, "I'll keep yer number, I only live down the road from you" he shouts as I pull away, "you do that", I said, but if he thinks I'm coming down to £30 a bag, what a joke!
  7. I once threatened a customer with court action over a bill for £35, he laughed in my face. He wasn't laughing when he got a letter to tell him the date of the said action. I got a cheque the very next day. If they don't pay, tell them want you intend to do and do it, fairly sure you will be paid pretty quick.
  8. Hi Dilz, wherabouts in Sweden are you, I may be able to put you in touch with someone, CJ
  9. Very tragic, thoughts go out to her family.
  10. my half chewed mouthful of toast has just gone half way across the room my wife is not amused.
  11. Ha! I'm getting a few pricing calls at the moment, you can generally pick them out from the genuine customer.
  12. I've got no sympathy for his mental state. Anyone who works with animals on a daily basis should consider the animals they are responsible for, first and foremost. I read that the same thing happened to a spaniel in his "care" in 2004, he has been promoted since that happened. He should be dismissed and lose his pension.
  13. Hermes wants to get in on this one.
  14. Bri, I think some strains of bee are worse than others for stinging. Best thing to do is find someone local to help get you going. I've got an old boy local to me who has even made me a hive, well the brood chamber and lid, and keeps encouraging me to start up, but I have enough to do with me 'osses, give it a go boy!
  15. I'm not to far away, takes me 45 mins to get to Chester, pm if needed.
  16. I feel for you buddy, I really do, but take heed of what people are saying and make sure it never happens again.

Hamilton, is only interested in one thing, coming first. Not a bad thing IMO, he tries to make something happen rather than waiting for "it" to happen. I love watching him race, he just needs the car to match his abilities.
  18. Heres mine, just a teasing shot, I'll give you a better profile another time.
  19. Thanks for that, as the timber is being felled from FSC certified stands, my friend is going to follow up first thing in the morning.
  20. What do you define as quality management? I have a friend, using horses as his primary extraction, who has supplied two mills, separate for hardwoods/softwoods, who cannot take his timber anymore because he is not FSC certified, he has been told it will cost in the region of £2000. Seems like a money spinner for someone. Thanks for the bit about buying the standing timber from an accredited source, that maybe the loophole he needs.
