yes thats it mate, but its never handed to us on a plate, we all have to tender for the work, and you only get it by being realistic imo but some boys i know rely on this type of work and move from scheme to scheme as they are classsed as "preferred contractors" and when they get to that stage i think they do put that bit extra on top as the tender stage seems to disappear from then on.

i agree, mate but the wording i have used has sent this thread wrong, i was meaning funding for works, not grants for business to buy/make/change business - i was thinking of the works that we as foresters carry out for say Natural England types wildlife schemes etc - i should have headed the thread funded works and not put the word grant

dont know about that, i think we will have a bad time this year, as i think every tom dick and harry and harrys uncle have jumped onto this band wagon that we 3 years ago couldnt give firewood away

well thats good, well done but where i was coming from was these grants for forestry/woodland/conservation etc work have all been shelved for hte moment it seems, and some stoppd indefinately, others cancelled - we were due to help a big job on august down in aldershot, thats been stopped, my cousin who verge mows throughout the m1 and a1 and right across to scarborough he has had that work stopped, we had a few small woodland/conservation jobs that look like they will now be shelved - luckily we werent banking on these it was just an added bonus bit of work any one else had any work shelved?

alot of grant funded schemes are not going ahead due to cost cutting, even the peak park are trying to sell off the Roaches (a wild rocky outcrop near Leek, staffs) more lads ringing us for work, i see more tree/forestry men selling alot of kit off. is this the real start of the recession or are we entering a depression in the economy - just no work and no money about any body else feel like this or am i being too negative

if its dying in the pot , like it sounds it is, check the roots, have they been attacked by a vine weevil or similar - which can come in through infected compost? otherwise it sounds like its dried out??

nice pics cutter, weve just completd our thinning contract just managed to get all the wood out by end of the month, was nice and flat - next job all skylining:thumbdown:, but will get some nice big ash out of it:thumbup1:

i agree whole heartedly, especially with red derv at the price it is, we have fixed our price for this summer at £75/cube for seasoned hardwood and this is fixed for the moment - if derv goes up again, prices will have to go up:thumbdown:, as transits and tractors dont run on fresh air! - also our felling costs have gone up so come winter the price will have to go up to nearer £85/cube if costs keep going up:thumbdown: had another call yesterday lady wanting 10 tonnes of logs - couldnt get the lady to understand that weight wasnt the way to go with logs - but i will keep galliantly repeating my mantra "you really want the logs as dry as possible and so as light as possible, thats why we sell by volume, in m3" the builders bag - aaaaaaarrrrrrrggghhhh - dont even get me onto that mr widmere - if only people would take nice seasoned larch for £60 m3- but i blame the stove installers for brainwashing the public into asking for either kiln dried or 3 year seasoned hardwood - (which is what we got asked for the other week)

we have a big rush come October right through to Christmas when everyone wants a load delivery on christmas eve - never ran out, but we get to the stage where when new customers ring up end of Feb. when seasond hardwood getting low, we have to offer them seasoned mix loads - as we never want to let our existing customers down. due to us being foresters i suppose it helps as we always have stacks at the various woods the lads are in. alot of our friends in the area who sell logs as a sideline run out come mid winter and pass their custom onto us:thumbup: - its good to have friends:001_tt2:

it would definatley benefit the industry, it would give the committed and consciencious firewood merchants like us:001_tt2: further evidence that our logs are the best:lol: but on a serious note, i looked into all the cents conformation material for biomass charlie and its pages long, alot of it covers traceability and conformaty of product - which we have anyway, so i think we shall put in for the scheme = when got time charlie:confused1: its just a shame its another cost that we have to fork out for, when we try and keep overheads as low as possible

looks like blackthorn if so the fruit will are sloes, pick and put in your gin for sloe gin

looks like alot of tidying up the windblow before you can start on the thinning cutter - hope your not on a tonnage rate mate, bet the windblows as light as owt

"sothebys" at Chatsworth House, open air art show/sale held every year, some really interesting things to see, kids love following the maps to find the next one etc.

chilling/hobbies consists of caravaning with the kids, tractor shows - with the kids, farming again with the kids so basicly chilling with the kids and Mrs L.- picture two - Mr logbaron in a pensive lunge.

our local ATS had no probs with doing tyres for us whether ordering new tyres, repairing punctures etc
