  1. the lads started with rain, then sleet and ended in snow in north derbyshire doing tree work, both came back wet as , as, well just wet - me and one of the lads managed to keep dry in the barn billeting ash logs - but still got wet when i had to clear the verge drain as we had a flood out on the road. j. - my geese enjoyed it though
  2. sorry to hear that charlie, by the looks of our top hedge we had visitors the other night cameras and alarm moved today see you later j.
  3. tractors hit a price eventually and tend to stay at that price, which bears no relation to their original value, and 70s tractors will always be cheaper than their original price only by going to vintage from classic models do you start to make more money so i dont know what you mean by that. if buying this at £13.5k to sell for a profit it only makes economical sense to put some on for a resale and if going by what we and our friend resell second hand farm machinery and tractors for we buy at auction it would be about 30% on top of buy price, so making about £20k - my point being 13.5k is about what you would want to pay if using it for yourself to keep your costs down, but talkiing dealer prices you have to put on so much for transport back to your yard and resale costs etc . and dealer prices are completely differnt ball game to auction values.
  4. thats the price we would pay for it and i think i would have gone to at the auction top of 15k, if you want to pay through the roof and think its worth it to you at £20k then fine - I personally dont think it is, and i know theres not many about now, but you can still find things at the right price, this is one in point of fact, a dealer has bought it and he will stick on his pound of flesh, its still only a 1994 tractor, we dont know the history before it had the crane put on in 2008 as it states, we dont know the hours, i was giving my opinion - you were giving yours and youve obviously got lots of money to through about, i would be more cautious and find the buy at the lower price of top at £15k as there may be hidden repair bills to come, it may be a fair price as you think at £24k but thats a hell of a lot of work your going to have to do to warrant spending that if you just mainly do firewood - my opinion j. - point of where i was coming from is we bought our valmet with roof mount, complete with front linkage and fransgard winch and with steering drawbar forwarding trailer the whole package for £13k and that was about 5 years ago, before that we had a county and case tractors, which had forwarder trailers on and they only cost a few grand each and served many many hours forwarding out and costs us little adn the county is still going strong- so on that score is where i personally think its too much - j. - granted if you need one quick and thats all there is fine, but if you can look around and search out there are always things at the right money
  5. ey up big man! - like the engineering solution "block and tackle" - youd go down a storm with our lads - all the best j.
  6. i for one do not feel ashamed about working tax credits or child benefit, for many years weve paid in whilst struggling to make a viable business and keep our employees in work and before i married and had children i had a very highly paid job and paid in alot of tax etc for more years than some even stay in work, so i do not feel ashamed about using WORKING tax credits or child benefit for hte benefit of my family, i do not fiddle the system and only claim for what i am entitled to, we make a living, but do not have the life of riley and have a stash squirrelled away, we are a working family, trying to get by, keep our employees paid a decent wage and keep our heads above water in these difficult times. i know of lots who scrouge and doss about, my father died when i was young, my mother had to bring us up and child benefit was a lifeline. so lets not judge to harshly with blanket dismissals
  7. from recollection i seem to think a thickish chop stick size - could be a market into the takeaway scene are you thinking:thumbup1:
  8. so as not to derail - i think the cubic nets now sold by maurice at bag supplies are a green colour at apf and they looked a better shape to them to hold up better inthe frame p.s. firewoodman - tom was ok once i found the afterbite stuff, we hardly had chance to look round which was probably a good thing on reflection - i like the briquettes have you made them yourself? and dont forget if ever passing the midlands pop in for a coffee - all the best joy - pm me if you like
  9. great idea and virtually free, i will have to go round the field and pull up some of the wire thats wasting under the hedge and have a go - LOVE THE LARCH! orange is the new black hows its going FWM- good to hear from you again since apf - all the best joy.
  10. yep we did a few hundred this year to try out, weve got hte frame etc, and they still slouched over the pallet, plus not UV stable so need to be away from daylight. didnt stack very well either, although we did manage about 2 high in the yard, but a bit of a faff compared to the cubic vented bags that can be reused
  11. did 6 lime tree pollards in town today, we had people coming in cars taking away the wood - we let people have it as we would have taken it back to yard - but if they want to help us out and save carting it back no probs - all wood is good if dryed out .
  12. many thanks for callum giving us a hand today, i know hes been recently made redundant - if we had a place to spare would definatley give him a job - highly recommend to anyone else, all the best being self employed mate - Mr. says you came with the right attitude, and everytime he looked down you had a rake in your hand or brash feeding the chipper , smart and presentable as we were doing a high profile job in the middle of town for the council - so thumbs up and many thanks - j.
  13. might be the next project after christmas then - as he says "never underestimate what the baron can do" - if you can find us and if you can afford us - maybe you can afford the A team:lol:
  14. well that what Mr. was saying last night, as he said he would buy the valmet seperate if need be and put the crane on himself as both Mr and Tony are both from agricultural engineering backgrounds, and as he deals a bit in tractors etc, knows the value of stuff from an auction point of view, and so he looks at it i guess from what he could buy the two seperate for and put together for - if youd pay 20k for that - you can buy ours for 20k then and we can start building another then! j.
  15. this is the firewood man who has setup and tells us hes supplying quality wood - is this question a joke!? - lets hope so:blushing:
  16. dave that wall isnt getting any softer that ive been banging my head against , sounds like yours isnt either
  17. well youve got more money than sense ! as the tractors only prob worth 8k without crane and put crane on for 5k ish so id of said spot on at 13k but the person whos bought it such as up north jpw will prbably sell it for 18k - but its not worth it id of said - just my opinion
  18. if you want the work - PLEASE let us know - trying to get hold of you whether you want picking up or are coming thursday - please get back to us on 01889 564519 asap please callum -
  19. no ours was stolen from the ride side stack,no mechanical harvesting allowed in this pariticular heritage wood so althougth it say myself a neat job done, and a friend of ours who stacks on a disused airfield had a visitor who he recognised in a white van cutting about 3ft of all his 12ft lengths and nicking it.
  20. we all want more, its human nature, but just remember we are still in a middle of a recession, work comes and goes, your boss may have alot of "trinkets" but dont covert other peoples posessions, you dont know the full story, and tbh being an employer isnt easy, you have to pay more out sometimes than you get in - after all we pay extra NI contribs and we pay insurances, training, ppe, lots of costs and headaches and if the boss wants to spend his hard earned filthy lucre on a BMW why not, i wouldnt be ashamed to ask for more is natural, but put it into context, if you ask for more, will your empoyer see that as a threat, or see it as an opportunity to reward? phrase your request well and you may get that raise, but if the job sheets only full to xmas, dont over price yourself out of a job come new year!" - just my opinion - and most of the time its easier as a employee than an employer remember - you dont get alot of the stresses, especially when you worrry about filling weeks of work for lads j.
  21. timber theft is one of the worst, we must have lost tonnes in our last thinnings at a FC woodland, and I know of someone who was advertising said logs on ebay when i sneakily emailed him to ask "can you get more logs? - he replied well certainly i go to the wood and fetch what i can in the boot when the fellers have gone home! - and they think there not doing any harm - we have to fell and buy the timber, they think there only ripping off the government as he said, but they dont realise its hardworking small businesses likes ours - then you get the other end of the firewood customer "how much for a load - such and such is selling a load for £xx lower than your prices but there not seasoned" - well there you go i say, we have to fell, cut, transport, store and deliver logs oh and by the way try and make a living. j.
  22. get into it girl - I help my husband out - granted not as much now with 2 kids in tow, but when i can and if i can i will help, got my cs30&31 tickets, I decided to take the course when Mr. was having a course done for two of his employees - and take note one was another lady - My sister in law! and we all passed with flying colours - my sister in law is only about 5ft tall and she uses a MS180 stihl i think it is and she can manage that all day, brashing up and grounding for the lads - i know of another lady who runs her own tree surgery business - think shes on here, who comes and buys sticks off us - so dont let gender hold you back - its good fun and its better than sitting behind a desk all day - trust me ive been there! all the best j.
  23. be strong, each day will be hard but time can help ease the sorrow, you never get over loss you learn to live with it - been there pal, all the best J.
