  1. Great input guys thank you and the email from marlow is far beyond what I was hoping for. Does look like a tricky one but certainly doable, what the email describes sounds like the New England heavy duty kernmantle eye splice up until the cover bury, can't see how you'd get two lots of core and 1 lot of cover all sitting together inside the final cover though?? My current lanyard bugged me more than normal today knowing I had this on my table waiting!
  2. Looks an interesting splice and like craig I'd be interested to see if you can bury the cover...? The rope construction looks about right, is this still do-able with a wire fid or would a push did be easier??
  3. This is the link to the rope. http://www.marlowropes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=114&Itemid=176
  4. Yeah i'm certain it's possible, Marlow even have on their www. Its a spliceable rope. Their splice instructions arent great to identify the type of rope or splice necessary though. Probably a better way of explaining it is the cover is 24 strand but the core isn't braided and is like that in a 16 strand rope.
  5. Any one any experience if this? It's 24 strand but kernmantle core so treat it like a 16 strand splice but with a 5-4-5-4-5-4... Taper?? Just got it today for my new lanyard and had hoped to get it done tonight!
  6. They really are awful to drive as well, I used to do a lot of work on the festival circuit and we'd get a defender on hire for the time onsite but if it was a big event then the odd Santana would pop up. I had one for two weeks and it was just awful, ride, handling, suspension, can't believe I'm saying this but fell to pieces worse than a defender does normally!!
  7. Yeah but wait for the added cost of shipping and import tax and you might be just as well to buy in the UK and have it quicker. I'm sure Ian will be in at some point to sing praise about his GoPro2

  9. Gotta love AT!
  10. Ah gotcha, I'm familiar with the 16 strand and have been doing a few double braids as per the new England PDF which I believe is class 1 (?) but hadn't seen a break down for class 2 so just curious about the difference. Longer bury by the sounds of it?
  11. Thanks BrownCow, so would a 16 strand rope fall under class 2?
  12. Can anyone elaborate on the difference between class 1 & 2??
  13. Have you considered Yale Imori? 12mm and gets a good write up with the SJ too.
  14. We were re-pollarding a bunch of willows along the stretch of river which wasn't all that fast flowing but was tidal which meant we had to think about how tight or slack we tied it off which was normally to a tree or something else fixed on the bank. To get as much in to the bare as we could we milled/crashed it up with the saw and stacked all the timber at the opposite end. Unloading he had a telehandler with a claw which literally clawed it all out and onto the burn pile, quick sweep out of the last bits and presto, time to go again!
  15. Did something similar in Norfolk earlier this year, got a working barge from the broads authority, everything went into the barge, braised it all up in that. the guy I was working for had a burn site further down the river so end of the day hot down there, telehandled it onto the burn pile and presto!
  16. How large an eye are you after?? I could splice something up if your still looking?
  17. Looking forward to seeing more
  18. Another snappy video Ian!! Hows the gopro2 working out for you?? Unfortunately Camera has had to go on the back burner for me after the MOT ate my gopro fund !!
  19. So after all the questions I've asked of this thread and others, here it is, my first double braid splice also in 12mm Imori All went smoothly until it came to burying everything which I think I took a bit too quickly as it all got really tight and took a fair bit of pulling and milking and smoothing out but it there eventually!! You might be able to see from the photo it's still pretty tight around the throat so I'm going to sit and manipulate it to try and loosen it up before I whip it
  20. What size pinto is everyone using for the home made RG'a and what's the max size retrieval ball you can fit through the pinto of choice? I saw these asked earlier in the thread but not certain what conclusions people came to. Thanks guys!
  21. Bridgend college Pencoed campus Is where I did mine, could not fault the training in any respect. http://www.bridgend.ac.uk/nptc/
  22. Spliced the other end of a 3M length of new 16 strand I'd already spliced once, crossover much smoother, new rope a breeze
  23. Drew, do you just cut at a finer angle when doing your taper as per the video or do you do something a little more technical?
  24. I think the theory behind the hi vee is that it would be much more visible in the tree, when you put the two next to each other there is IMO a noticeable difference in how visible they would be, having said that, i'm sticking with a bright orange line for now!! HoneyBros also stock both.
