  1. Ace, thanks Drew Bog standard DB splice as per NE instructions otherwise yep?
  2. Re. Splicing tachyon. What's the best advice on how to treat the purple core centre strands, are they in anyway related to rope strength or is it just a profile thing as mentioned earlier? Got 5M to splice up for a new lanyard this weekend and it's my first go at tachyon so all answers on postcards or otherwise welcomed
  3. Jiffy yes but address was a printed stick-on label.
  4. Yeah I did too, see thread 'Free stuff through the post' Unexpected subscription freebie
  5. I wasn't advertising anything, simply trying to work out where something I hadn't solicited delivery of had come from and then making a comment on the price I had paid for an annual subscription to a magazine to then find I could have possibly got it for less on an issue by issue basis from a well known industry supplier. I haven't signed a confidentiality clause as part of the subscription and so don't see any problem discussing this on an industry forum? As for everyone wanting one, that's up to whoever has chosen to distribute the item, I haven't swayed or gained anyone's favour in order to receive it so why can't I talk about it? I'm sure if there is issue then the Mods will be able to clarify on the matter.
  6. Quite glad I got that little Freebie, just seen Honey's selling ArbClimber for £3.50 an issue, I paid £20 for my subscription for 4 issues over 12 months! At the time I thought that was a fair price but no-one likes to find they've been done a kipper!
  7. I hope you're not claiming the VAT back then! I did enter that draw yes but it was before I moved addresses...
  8. nope. I used to work for a firm down there but not the sort to give away free stuff, getting paid properly was hard enough!
  9. Nope, I dint win anything, again Pleasant, it's 30 days sale or return isn't it?
  10. So I checked the mail box for my flat this morning and in amongst the usual guff from takeaways was a little bubble wrap envelope with my name on it. This was odd as I hadn't ordered anything and wasn't expecting anything other than bills. Truro post mark 26th Jan and inside was an ISC gator snap lock carabiner! Now I'm very happy to receive this as snaps are always handy but I have no idea who sent it or why it has come to me. I lived in Cornwall until about 4 months ago but the envelope and address sticker look pro and not many people have my new address let alone a supplier!! STUMPED! Anyone else get free stuff today??
  11. I may well be corrected but my understanding of the word 'whiplocking' is that it is a term for the combination of lock stitching and whipping. Lockstitching is necessary as while the splice is unlikely to come loose under great loads, it is lighter loads that may cause it to loosen. The lockstitching holds everything in place. Whipping is a more decorative thing but for me, it covers up an protects the lockstitches, also, psychologically, if I know I've whipped it I know I've lockstitched it.
  12. Great video, ace climbing and loving my sawpod, used it in anger for the frat time today. Took a little while to stop automatically going to were I used to keep it on my harness but it makes so much more sense on my right leg! Love it!
  13. WOW! I didn't used to be that keen on Travis Rice. I didn't like how much That's it That's all was a Travis Rice handjob, watching it he was clearly a talented rider but I didn't get why he was being bigged up over anyone else. Art of Flight changed that for me, he truely is an incredible rider who can do anything, just look at Jeremy Jones' reaction to the stuff he was doing in AK. And, if he's pushing the sport forward with projects like this, then all credit and best of luck to him. anyone else getting sick of all the updates from friends on seasons about how great the snow is this year? my Boss is in Fleigne for the week and has been sending me pictures of bluesky days, loads of snow and empty pistes.
  14. Downhill side theres a risk if you spike out that you'd slip all the way down the pole... If I'm spiking up then like skyhuck said, try and stand up and maybe further out than normal and maybe too far away from the work so when I want to make a cut I dig my right spike in crouch into the stem and lift my left leg higher bracing myslef on the pole with my left leg/shin/knee so im slightly sideways to the stem. i also find that taking a wrap with my strop onto the side D's helps balance this position. ie. pulling with your hips into the choked 'non-slip' strop and pushing away with my left leg and holding a balance. did that make any sense to anyone else?
  15. That's what I was using alex, hated it. You can pick up pinto pulley, ultra O and a shadow carab for 45 quid ish from honeys and then pick your cord and rope to suit. Still going to come in under the cost of a ce lanyard for a piece of kit which does the same thing. I did it and went for the aeris as it's super soft not realizing how hard I was going to find the heavy duty kernmantle splice so thinking double braid this time. I too like it longish (5M) so I can use it as a secondary line if necessary on little excursions on big stuff!
  16. I know the rope is the main part, but, I've cut it! So it needs replacing and I'm looking for sensible input and ideas on an alternative to the rope I was using before!
  17. I already have all the component parts, just need the new rope! Made mine for a fraction of the cost too!
  18. Whats the ocean poly like to splice? Only worked on climbing line so far not acc/hitch cord.
