  1. Drew, when tapering double braid do you always use the 5-4-5-4 then, is this your sequence to account for your longer fid length or is that a standard double braid taper sequence??
  2. That PDF is brilliant, I also get the thing about left and right strands on the taper too. Thanks guys!! Hopefully thats it until I get the splice done
  3. Pic 1 as they would lie in the jacket Pic 2 showing the same origin in the weave.
  4. This is what I was shown with 16 strand. The yellow was where my mark fell and the orange is the strand which it uncovered and came from the same origin/hole in the cover as the yellow. From your pics it seems you've pulled a second (pair of) strands from in line with your mark on the first (pair of) strands but not the same origin. Is this not so important with double as 16 strand or is it not that important with 16 strand but just the way I've been shown??
  5. Drew, i am in awe of the library (perhaps arsenal) of photographs you can call to hand at short notice!! When I did 16 strand I pulled the strand that the mark landed on (the 5th strand) and the strand whic it uncovered which came from the same hole, if that makes sense. Your photo appears to show strands being pulled from separate origin holes in the weave, is this something peculiar to this particular rope's construction or is this something I've not yet come across which is different in double braid compare to 16 strand?
  6. Brilliant, that makes perfect sense, thanks Drew. 5 4 5 4 is that removing 2 strands at each?? Not got into it yet as sill accruing some bits and then cracking into some 16 strand first as this double braid will be for my new short rope so want to get it right first time round. Somehow I don't think this will be the last question I post on this thread so please bear with me
  7. I think you've lost me, you put two needles into the crossover and then leave them in, or is it just to hold the crossover in place temporarily?? Only done 16 strand so far and having watched double braid on YouTube I think I get the principles but not seen any reference to stitching or putting needles into the crossover...
  8. Putting 2 needles in the crossover...? When and why??
  9. 12mm Yale Imori? How did you find it, waiting on some splicing bits to come through and going to I've it a bash though I've only just learned 16 strand so gonna get a few more of those in first. I know double braid is a different technique but have studied the tutorials that are about on the web, anyone got any tips or points of reference for how many and which strands for the taper?
  10. Hi guys, If your splicing onto a pinto for a ropeguide wasn't there some discussion about the use of spacers to prevent the eyes from twisting/pulling/pushing apart? How might you go about splicing a prussic loop into the one eye this would create (through one pinto eye, then the spacer, then the second pinto eye). Is this possible, is there enough room?? Just been on Nods workshop so suddenly a whole new world has opened up for me!!
  11. I'd just like to say a huge thank you to Nod for yesterdays workshop. The whole process was easily broken down into stages that made sense and Nod has invaluable patience and knowledge which to a first time splicer are a great benefit. Thanks again Nod and can't wait to get my hands on some tools to pick apart all the rope I have at home!!
  12. What Steve said, excellent skills.
  13. Unfortunately Janey, my flat does not have an office in it, nor am I important enough to warrant having one, though this small room does have a throne of sorts... All great input guys I shall take a look into these, And Dave, not an image I think I wanted this early in the am!!! But thanks!
  14. Moved into a new flat and have a small room which is rather short on reading material... Which do you subscribe to, what does it cost you, how often does it come through the letterbox and most of all, is it good value for money???
  15. Ditto on what Brad said
  16. I nearly posted this the other day. For me I want photographs (leaf/needle illustration, tree form/natural shape) where it's typically found and what it's used for. Something I can turn to to put a name to a face really, but field guide not coffee table size
  17. Is that a wide lens add on? What's the attachment hook up to??
  18. Didn't seem to do too badly on the ski and snow section for white balance though, or is that filter work do you think?
  19. One helluvah video, the cliff drop @ 8.28 I remember seein in another film a while back and thinking, 'that guy just screwed up his route and didn't mean to do that, now he's dead' some people really do live it turned up to 11.
  20. I have some snowboarding in mind as well so yeah white balance and glare is something I'm taking into consideration and I've noticed on a few videos on here that the white balance doesn't always work out and the contour does state the auto white balance thing as a selling point. But you say gopro2 has this sorted out?
  21. Ok, but I've still got the Contour series in mind as well and like the deft initially I like it's more ergonomic and streamlined design, think I need to wait for the gopro2 to come out and then do a compare and contrast. With the go pro, mounted on top of the helmet does it get hung up / caught up in stuff whilst your climbing, this would put me off as whilst your wearing a camera, I don't want to feel like I'm wearing a camera if that makes sense??
