  1. GOTCHA! Having seen a few of the homemade RG's on the forum and the variation from ring to large spliced eye etc... that helps, I guess then the possibilities are endless once you can splice your own kit. I know whats just moved up more than a notch or two on my list of things to learn! cheers Rupe!
  2. Return flight from Newquay to Manchester leaving tomorrow, Friday 1st April DEP 11.35 ARR 12.50, returning Monday 4th April DEP 19.10 ARR 20.20. I paid £75 for the flights (incl. the £4.50 charge to book a seat on each flight!! flaming budget airlines eh!) and it'll cost £30 for a name change plus any difference on the total cost of the flight from the initial time of booking. Im not flying anymore as Im now driving to pick up my 'new' car. I dont think you'd have to take both flights if you only wanted it oneway, the name change charge would still apply but the difference in flight cost would be lower than changing details for both flights...I think. anyone interested let me know, cheers, Ben.
  3. Rupe - I'm on a Michocan (sp?) with a micro pulley and playing with the VT for a bit before going full blown HC but thats the direction im going so it sounds like it could be something that becomes part of my repetoire. In terms of retreival, I use a spliced eye so either stopper knot or use a toggle and simply pull it through and down with the cambium saver. Looking at the rope guide, the rope has to come through the pulley but not through the attachment at the free/'non working' end? how easy is this, or is this part of the problem with retrieving rope guides i've read about? is it a matter of just searching for the right pulley and clip combo for your own kit? sorry if this is all a bit straightforward, just double checking what i think i know so far...
  4. So I use a cambium saver in my climbing kit but have only seen ropeguides in the pics from the home-made thread and others around the web and have never used one. I get that there's a mechanical advantage (?) to using a rope guide and that the pulley reduces friction so I guess it depends on your climbing style if it benefits you or not. basically, what are your thoughts, does it compliment your style or hinder it and are there applications where its better suited than others??? also, a cheat sheet on installation would help if any one has pics to hand, again I think I have it right but before I got trying to make one, might be nice to have some more experienced input. cheers guys.
  5. So I stumbled upon this earlier today XCEL 3-2mm Infiniti Drylock Summer Wetsuit Medium USED on eBay (end time 21-Mar-11 20:03:15 GMT) As I understand it, his frank and humourous disclosure grabbed the attention of potential bidders who jacked up the bids which then got it some notoriety and the attention of 'sponsors' and it's snowballed from there! some of the Q&A's are well woth a read and if you have a spare 10K or so, why not, its a great cause and a great package!
  6. will do ady, my mate was driving that time and our balls were firmly tucked under our diaphragms after just getting out so he wasnt to keen to pull over!
  7. It's not easy, I'm pretty green and though I had a nice couple of months before Christmas, havent had much since the new year so back to the perennial bar-work to keep the bills covered. Did get Chapter 8 the other day though, not sure how much difference it will make. Ady, speaking of surfers, did i see your D3 at S. Fistral weekend before last? only caught a glimpse and thought it might have been you?
  8. Very impressive pics guys, looks like a good couple of days.
  9. £22.50 Hitchclimber
  10. Application already in. any idea what the turnaround time might be?
  11. Ady, fancy going for a climb sometime? had a look at treviscoe woods the other week but the missus got cold and bored standing on the ground watching. would be good to get out with another climber if you're game? you still got my number?
  12. Thanks guys, thats some useful info from you both. fingers crossed something comes good. Seem to have derailed your thread Mr Zero, sorry! now to get some kip before the drive up to the big smoke!
  13. probably but the cost of living will also be much higher!
  14. Yip. any tips? other than the usual stuff on the trial days thread...
  15. I'd really appreciate that. Went around the usual suspects, Hiline, Silvanus back in September and nadda. Had a bit of work of a smaller outfit before christmas which was great but dried up now, although Silvanus have been back to me asking me to send in an application again so fingers crossed. i think its going to be the Western Power contract but if it means staying in Kernow and having a job then YES PLEASE! got a 3 day trial for a big company up in Croydon starting on Monday, would be a great oppurtunity but its quite a distance from this beautiful place. or, dare i go self employed/self taught...

  21. I havent as yet had any trouble with this Michocan, never needed to redress it, always locks off. Only using a pulley right now but Hitch Climber to come. Been using 9mm boa but got some 9mm armor prus coming back with eye to eye spliced in so gonna see how that works out, on paper, should be better?? havent tried the Knut really so might compare and contrast when i get the armor prus.
  22. Tried it out today and really liked it, a little more positive than the VT which I prefer and really simple knot, only done the one climb on it though so see how it goes.
  23. Thanks guys, already applied for the 2 arborists so fingers crossed. Not yet tried Hi-Line, im guessing PTS is needed??
  24. Also, this in today's Telegraph in Poole: Protected pine trees killed near exclusive development site - Telegraph doesn't do the industry a lot of favours: "The attack was done by somebody who knew what they were doing or had taken advice. "
