  1. But that then also throws a gopro2 into the mix, which if it's considerably better, might be worth waiting and saving the extra for the better product?? Cripes.
  2. Someone's just mentioned Contour to me, there are three types I think looking at the website, anyone any experience with these and how it compares to gopro?? There I was thinking I'd made my mind up on a gopro
  3. I think remember you telling me about that one when we had the hoist out over that conservatory? Glad you've got something meaty to get into. New job going very well thanks, got my first big take down out of the way earlier this week which was great and spiked and dismantled a dead chestnut today which was interesting!! Plenty of work lined up too which is good news Pics would be good but I think I know what configurations you mean, what length do you go for?
  4. Lee this sounds like a brilliant idea and well done on getting this far, I'd be interested in helping out but am in Dorset, is this going to be just in the North West in it's initial phase?
  5. Nice idea with the friction cord Dave, bit like a mini homemade cambium saver. How's Kernow life?
  6. Arguably, depending on what you climb on, a second rope could be more gear intensive as you'd require one extra rope, 1x friction cord and the karabs and a pulley if that's how you climb. M-Method, your still only using the one rope but the other bits and pieces as well. I'm already on a HC so M-Method is quite doable though if your on a prussic setup then perhaps second rope is less intensive???
  7. So perhaps M-Method might be better to start using? Setup the second anchor point, use a pinto and a prussic to capture the slack so it doesn't equalise, load it, slacken off main anchor and work off second until I no longer need it?? Little more gear intensive than 1x sling & 1x karab, i guess it depends how much im going to use it... And how much time / frustration it might save.
  8. Excellent, Thanks Ian!!
  9. Might have more wide ranging applications though than a double pulley so might long term be better money spent? That or a pinto and a couple of karabs and an existing prussic and start practicing M-Method? Mind, that's two oval karabs (preference) AND a pulley!!
  10. Just saw that on the website... So, where do I get the best price on a gopro package? This just went to the top of my Christmas List.
  11. I had thought about one like this http://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products-page/climbing-equipment/pulleys1/35kn-isc-small-double-swing-cheek-pulley/ But unless the ropes are feeding through the pulley in line from the original anchor point, say I'm working at a 90 degree angle from the original, just as an example, then it looks like one leg of the rope might jump up and still cross or rub over the other??
  12. Doesn't the go pro require an external shell to male it water and shock proof??
  13. Evening all, so have started needing to use redirects more in my climbing and have been choking off a tape sling and running both lines of my rope through a Karab clipped in to the sling. Positioning wise, no issues, however, the ropes can then cross over, twist and other such behaviour adding friction to my system which I'm trying to have as little of. Anyone got any quick fixes or obvious solutions I'm clearly missing? 2 Karabs???
  14. So maybe I'm thinking a drift as it doesn't seem to need so many add ons, screen, battery pack etc... Or is the drift just as short on standard battery life without an expansion option?
  15. Mounting then, is it possible with the bits and pieces they supply you with or do folk use custom made pieces?? Can anyone give any negative points about either? That normally helps when pickin and choosing, do both suffer with that slow auto contrast thing??
  16. So gopro is a more conventional looking gadget that can be front mounted on a helmet and the drift less conventional that can only be side mounted?? Is there any big difference in ease of use between the two compatibility to tree climbing etc... ?
  17. So how for the drift compare to the gopro in terms of battery life, with or without the gopro's extra battery life pack doodah??
  18. Bump. Looking at a go pro and as above, the website only shows side mounted for helmet cam... What are the options??
  19. is it just me who cant see the vid on jonesies site?
  20. Incredible video, excellent work, well done!!
  21. I wouldnt bother with waipoua, have a pair issued from work and too low in the crotch and too short in the leg (alright im long in the leg) but the upshot is reduced movement and flexibility which becomes an issue when climbing. If you hitch them right up or wear them with braces then they end up a bit half mast above thetop of my boot...might be a unique problem to taller folk but other guys at work also find then heavy and chaffing to wear.... but, try out a few pairs, my experience might be totally different to yours.
  22. Your right, We dont need them to be bright or eyecatching, so long as they are comfortable, hard wearing and do what is asked of them. However, we are the end consumer of a product, the designers, manufacturers and retailers need their product to sell and having an eyecatching product can boost that. For example, for many of us the trucks we drive around in have distinctive, unique and often eyecatching graphics which make our own or the company we are working for stand out, give us market presence and hopefully prominence in a customers mind in the hope that we become the preferred service provider to them, the end user. I like them, but i totally understand that other people will loathe them based on the colour. BUT, if we just need them to be comfortable, protective and durable, then does it matter if they are putrid, Slimer from ghostbusters fame green? If the last day or so is anything to go by, they'll be brown and beaten up in not time at all!
  23. I was talking to the Tree Partner guys at the Arb Show earlier this year wearing my comfiest pair of old beaten and predominantly lime green skate trainers and a comment or two was passed about their garish / useful hi viz appearance... maybe they werent the only ones to notice...
  24. A few of these came in this morning for issue to some of the guys who've just started on at work, had a quick blast, only a few cuts, nothing major, but a nice light well balanced and torquey little saw, can see it being a good all round all dayer, provided it stands up to the usual teething problems new products are inclined to have!!
  25. I guess so Frank! I liked the flick you did on the Marlinspike, i sort of roll my hand up the rope picking up the bits as i go but that flick looks neat, gonna practice that!
