  1. Boots own brand Wasp strength insect repellant has worked well for me so far (labelled as horse fly strength to), plenty of willow bogs ventured and not a bite since I started using it, prior to that i felt like prime meat to them!
  2. Incredible video Drew, i can only imagine the tedium of sitting and waiting out the rain in the tent. But, as already has been said and you have testified to, what brilliant tents! When do you plan on going back?
  3. a new discipline for the climbing comps perhaps? not just how quick you can get up and down, reach the workstations and accurately throw the logs out of the basket without hitting the gnomes (cutters and climbers) but how quickly can you setup a rigging system?? food for thought perhaps?
  4. I remember a thread on cut away lanyard's a while back that might be worth a look over beforehand:001_tt2:
  5. don't be shy Frank... Post a bid Yeah I know it's not a hard knot to tie using the classic rabbit-hole method, I just hadn't seen it tied like this before and wondered how many other people had seen it. Useful I think in the knot tying section to show there are different ways of tying some knots as I've found that some make sense an stick whereas other don't. God knows how many different ways I've seen to tie an alpine butterfly but only one has stuck with me!
  6. if this is common knowledge then its just me who's learnt something tonight. took me a little while to suss out even watching the slowed down section but after watching and rewinding alot, i have a new trick in the bag. 7. [quote= I use Arbortech chainsaw gloves with little gel AV pads in and they're very comfy and quite warm. Hard wearing i'm yet to tell. The timberland ones i had for 3 week and wrecked. . Where can you pick these up from, seen them around but cant find a stockist? cheers.
  8. If we're able to use one of these sites then perhaps we need to find out what dates they would be available? would be good if we're gonna get together and do this to do it on some nice big specimen trees? also, I'm going to have to backtrack on my provisional 'yes' to Aug BH weekend as i'm going camping in Wales. any other weekend is fine in Aug and Sept I'd have to check as have stag do and wedding in that month, but we'd want to do it before Sept wouldnt we???
  9. any tree is good aug bank hol sounds good provisionally.
  10. Well that was an enthusiastic bump!! I'm dead keen for this, anyone want to start throwing some dates into the mix??
  11. I hope this helps. I would like to add a note of caution, the system requires a controlled descent to prevent the possible damage to your rope from excessive friction and needs to be wieghted before removing your lanyard. Does this then have any advantage over simply tying a running bowline around the stem other than the potential 2:1 hauling ratio for a re-ascent by clipping the bight into your bridge? is it any quicker to setup or more practical than using the multi sling which does offer the option of a retrievable tail? though i guess, watching the video, if you want a hauling system using the multisling, a ringloop is added to the system to clip into anyways... I think both these examples hold merit but is there a way of streamlining/incorporating both a 2:1 hauling system and a retrievable tail? what about tying the green ring (as above) into a bowline but leaving a long tail so when you've reached your next work point youlanyard in, take the weight out of the mainline and then pull on the tail to bring the system down, retend slack and start over?
  12. I'd be keen dave, CS41 probably wont happen for me for another 12 months at least (!) but a workshop would certainly be of interest and perhaps go some way to filling the gaps waiting for CS41 will leave?
  13. Gladd he's made it through, remember hearing about this when it happened when I was on my way back from a work stint in Norwich. Had been at a BS8545 seminar next door to the BTS premises in Ipswich a couple of days beforehand so it cemented in my mind. A very, very lucky guy.
  14. Saw those, there was an Ash as you went through from Green Futures Field into the Stone Circle that particularly caught my eye. remember thinking what a great job that would be to have had! also have some pictures of the topiary plugs in situ at the chill and charge on my phone wich i shall upload shortly.
  15. Just a dash of the brown stuff.
  16. Thanks guys, all useful stuff, still got to get my head around it somewhat but once i have a play with it im sure it'll make sense. Jamie, how did you IRATA training come about, are you using it for work currently?
  17. I'll be there, doing the Traffic Management (!) behind pyramid stage, not glamorous but it gets me there and pays!
  18. This helped!! http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=626
  19. So the tree wrench fairleads the rope through your standard hitch and gives you a hand hold at head height?? Come descent does it also act as a rake in the way a fig 8 would and not put all the friction into your hitch? I like how streamlined it is but as above, what kinda money are you looking at??
  20. The Tree Partner guys demo'd some pole rescue techniques in the Stihl demo area as part of their timetable... or was there a schedule clash between the demo's and the competitions that could be altered for next year so they dont run simultaneously? (if they did, i cant remember)
  21. look forward to it, my wishlist just got a lot longer after trying SRT out this weekend so will be nice to compare it the Petzl gear.
  22. Alright Dave, i can't say i did see the Stein system, is this the setup? More on the Stein SRT system without getting close to it I cant spot much of a difference other than the shape of the hardware? but yeah, it'd be great if someone came up with a system to ascend and descend on, I think someone already mentioned unicender but again, thats a whole new ball game for me. do you SRT much or can you reach most stuff from the roof of the mog:001_tongue: come away with any new toys?
  23. Saw this at the show this weekend but cant quite remember how it was set up. The rescuer and casualty are on the same line on opposite sides of a pulley at the anchor point and the rescuer is able to lift the casualty eg. out of crotches, by transferring his weight somehow. There's slack generation and a couple of prussics involved but i cant quite remember it!! any one able to help or got their camera out at the demo and has a couple of pics of the setup? thanks.
