  1. The d max already has plenty of power for towing already thats not the problem. Its stopping the stuff and keeping it safely on the road with only two wheels driving and controlling. Yes they have a problem with fuel dilution caused by the pdf trying to regenerate. Not all of them have the problem if you have you will also find the fuel consumption has gone from late 30's to low 20's. I hope they get a proper solution with this as the Rodeo was a good vehicle and was on the way to restoring their name after the disaster 3.0 litre trooper.
  2. I have a large green mech and tried all the above and give up and just blast it on the floor and scoop up with bobcat. The green mech seems to have a strong blast which is a good thing especially when things get wet and gooey
  3. I think you can load your defender up and still put 3500kg behind and stay under the gross train of around 6000kg. The double cab you can put 1000kg in the boot but then only 2500kg on the hook. I dont fancy the idea of empty boot and 3500kg pushing me sideways down a hill in the wet in 2 wheel drive. I personally dont feel right with 3500kg behind any of the Landrovers 2500 is enough unless its a d3 or d4 . The Amazon copes easily with 3500kg a decent lorry is a much better idea.
  4. 46 which I thought was really old till I got here then realised 26-46 goes in a blink. If you are young dont waste it death feels like a life time away when your young but its not if you see what I mean
  5. I did some reasearch a few months back to cover about 100ftx20 so need a few sheets. I prefer plastic coated ind sheets. Came to the conclusion that I would be going to exeter ( cladco ) or Birmingham to get the right price. Not had the time yet may be worth a look on ebay as you dont need a huge amount wont be worth travelling far to save a few quid.
  6. True but the beauty of the double cabs is flexibility. Nice to drive on a run dont leak water and the heater works.. You can carry passengers and tools. They can tow 3500kg if needed although I found the ride poor with leaf springs on the Navarra as they bounce up and down with a trailer on. If u want a rugged work horse that moves max weight across rough ground without o licence the defender is still the vehicle to have especially if you only work local. The coil springs are better for towing and the option of low box without axles locked is great for pulling a full trailer away on a hill or crawling for hours in heavy traffic takes the strain off the clutch.
  7. raise it half way then unplug the controller make sure no one leans under it. If it stops dropping then the controller is shorted if it still drops the controller is ok. Strange it stays when fully tipped sounds like must be pressure relief valve as there is less weight on the ram when fully tipped.
  8. Was it defo set fire or possibly an electrical fault. Was the battery still connected. I am looking for a decent telehandler and will keep it insured mainly for fear of rodent/ bird nests electrical failure causing fire damage.
  9. I have pulled 3500kg of generators around for years. I never really mastered the changing on the fly with the landrover especially with a big trailer get it wrong and there are lots of noises underneath. If stuck in traffic on the motorway I used to stick it in low box if the traffic cleared you would have to ditch it in the hard shoulder for a minute. Any slight slope when fully loaded would mean putting it in low especially the TD5 stuff. The jap stuff is ok in low box on loose gravel but will damage the transmission if screwing a big trailer round a corner on tarmac.
  10. Our old 150 bhp vito run sweet on shell, two tanks of morrisons and it sounded like a bag of nails. Next fill of shell back to normal. I think I pay about £1.10 + vat on the shell card at the moment.
  11. There are so many machines that would benefit from a push stick. It takes to minutes to find a stick but how often do you see people taking a risk for hours on end because they are too busy to make a stick. Loose a few fingers or worse and you will be slowed down for life.
  12. At the right price someone in ireland will buy it they have alot of small farms. The cost of collecting it will kill the deal for u if it even excists. The best way to flush a scammer out is only communicate through ebay. Ask to view and offer to pay cash on collection. Ask for more pictures that really upsets them often you can spot the two sets of pics dont line up.
  13. I would have thought a machine that size would need two people to feed it anyway so no one is idle on site. I would go as far as have several radio controlled emergency stop/reverse switches on other personnel including fitted to any diggers etc. If you are loading with a digger and see your mate go in the big red button is on the dash.
  14. I like the 627 cab is low to ground so easy to jump in and out which I think is important in our job we dont travel miles with radio and air con its used around the yard to move bulk bags. I think it will come down to finding something tidy in budget and close to home.
  15. There is a man on the film that goes into this and explains it quite well. I think the idea is the top layer starves the weeds and the layers underneath have rotted down. The garden in the film has been going at least 15 years and some areas 30.
  16. No but I see people just starting out had problems I think you need a good base of compost then the following years fresh chip is ok as the levels underneath are doing the growing. It looked good and made sense.
  17. It was 1hr 40 mins about an hour of that was religion. But basically he puts down layers of woodchip as the years go by the stuff underneath composts. The fresh stuff on top suppresses weeds. The whole effort is rich in nutrients and retains moisture. weeding is easy as they pull up easily. Dont rotovate it. It copies what happens naturally in a forrest. Looked good for the garden
  18. I think it works well in a garden especially if you gently ease away the chip to find the compost but may be difficult in a 200 hp john deere
  19. But if its so obvious why dont farmers grab all the chip and plough it in. It would be alot less offensive than spreading human crap all over the place in a heat wave. Oh yeah I remember we eat the stuff so we have to put up with it
  20. For the last ten years I pile the clippings from the hedge flail then 2 years later bobcat it into a veg patch. a Year or so ago I stopped as we sold part of the land and no longer have the space. This year planted veg straight in the soil and so far a waste of time. Planting in chippings I think works a treat as I found without even realising. I am the laziest gardener ever. If you play around with this idea please be very careful of the white mould and dust that comes up after a few weeks as it can make you very ill.
  21. Good pics and ideas. I have got some big pops and a woodmizer. I cant get the woodmizer to plank nr the root plate just wont have it. If I cut the end off will leave butts about 6ft long ? so a bit short for cladding but may still be worth a go. Does pop weather ok I have some 12mm studding so may use that to screw together.
  22. I need a big shelter and 6 telegraph poles have showed up and I have a heap of large long square timber. No idea how to join square to tele so any pics would be much appreciated. I am thinking cut poles in half and have roof about 9ft high. Steel single sheet on top. Not decided if I am going to clad the sides depends on what shows up in the next few weeks. Anyone else doing the same
  23. I think I would swap the disco 4 van for one like that.
  24. When it comes to carrying weight and 4x4 you can only really go the defender route. Just a shame they are so uncomfotable to drive and can be unreliable.
  25. The hilux single cab is a great pickup but if you look on the specs it only carries 700kg the double cab carries 1085kg. With a driver and 2 cu metres of green beech logs you would be over weight.
