    Its the time of year when we all want to start shifting stock as we have sat on it long enough. Customers are ringing around for the best possible logs at the lowest possible price and in some cases they will get it from newbies and side liners. come December you could offer wet chipboard you ripped out your kitchen in and that would be acceptable. I sell 80 % of my logs during Dec and Jan. About 15% goes to regular customers in Aug Sept. All widerbeests need to chill and relax at this time of year.

    They are still permanent 4 wheel drive until one wheel spins then all the energy goes there but for engine braking large trailers etc all four wheels will be doing their bit. My Landcruiser has all the diff locks and toys but still looses grip before any of the discos we have had over the years. The landrover are better because of their long soft saggy springs means on uneven ground you get even pressure and grip on ea wheel. At least thats what I have found trying to drag 3 tonne of generator across 2ft of festival mud and used rubber things

    We have a big stihl leccy one. Because the noise is different to a petrol one you can hear if you have forgotten and if that gets overlooked the chain hanging down is a reminder.

    The bravas werent great. Isuzu pulled out the stops to get the Rodeo right after the problems with the 3.0 litre common rail troopers. The old 3.1 trooper was a superb work horse.

    You have to keep checking the level. I think for someone running a business an electric in exceptional circumstances would have limited usefulness a rechargeable would be a waste of time. Especially on a 100 cuts I bet you do more than that with petrol in 1/2 hour and thats in 15 inch timber.

    I have found some one trippers tonight but they have had wood glue in them. 10 or 20 at a time should be ok what sort of money are they worth once I have got 20 for the yard may be able to spare some.

    Yes would be ideal but I dont think we produce enough tonnage to justify the cost. If I collected it up the cost of creating storage would take years to recover at the sort of money they are paying.

    I guess £8,000 plus vat cheaper if you dont want the engine.

    I spoke to the people who make the treatment and they did not advise burning the treated wood in domestic stoves but that was a year ago ideas may have changed. I had an idea tonight, If we bought in 6" larch or pop it could be pasted through a crude thickness planer just to put a 2" flat on each side. This would feed better through the kindlett and cut down on the bark waste in the bag. I have tried taking in joinery waste but its so labour intensive its not worth doing unles you can live on £4 an hour. If the off cuts were 6x2 and 4ft long it would be worth doing.

    When you say rodeo and L200 are the same do you know for sure they come from the same factory. I drove l200 in the past and thought they felt revvy and notchey on the gearbox. I did not think there was any tye up between the two companies. The rodeo did not used to be anything like the L200 but maybe they are now. It would be useful to know as I would consider a rodeo but defo not a Mitsubushi. If you are only going up to 10 miles then a defender will be the toughest for forrest or arb work. But if you are tall and need to travel more than 30 miles a day you will find the defender slow noisey, wet and uncomfortable.

    I have read over oiling the mix causes a lean mix as there is less petrol. This combined with half throttle may have caused your problem. The new more economical saws may be more precise on fuel metering whereas old saws may have dropped a bit more in. Good luck with your claim may be they will come back with some advice.

    The green stuff is tanalith. You cant burn it in a domestic stove. Most pallets will be treated as they cant enter china without being so and have marks on to indicate whats been used. There is now a new treatment which does not discolour the wood but gives it a slightly more yellow appearance. There is a huge ro ro skip less than 2 miles away and we are welcome to take it all. But its no use what so ever so it all goes to land fill. All these treatments are harmfull to the human body in lots of different ways if burn or the ash is spread on your veg patch.

    Space dust was a bit like cider for children fizzy on your tongue eyes on stalks awake for days running round in circles with silly grin on face. Log sales are steady which is just aswell as we dont have anywhere near enough in stock. Been mega busy all summer with kindling sales some customers bought 3000 bags at a time

    I have beech logs spread all over the lawn and they are jumping and popping in the sun like space dust on a ten year olds tongue ( if you are old enough to remember space dust )

    I like the look of that little bit right at the bottom I reckon its looking like firewood dave or you could get it on ebay tonight its free listing and you can start at whatever price you like I think.

    Does anyone know which mogs have a gross train weight of 24,000kg . Someone did send me some charts for a 425 but did not make much sense to me. I have a feeling i read somewhere the u1000 is only 12,000kg and the main reason for a mog is to tow my loaded 14,000kg trailer.

    great tips so far. I have a suspicion that some genuine manufacturers parts are being made with less quality than they should in china. As the economy struggles manufacturers will be under pressure to dump stock for machines out of manufacture 7 years ago. Modifying bodging and improving will be more usefull than ever.

    Hilux 2.4 non turbo upto 1997 slow even solo and will struggle on motorway hills built like brick privvy hilux 2.4 turbo upto 2001 ( our tipper ) pulls at 70 even fully loaded I would not tow with ours 170k engine getting tired and gets hot solo above 70mph. Dreadfull on fuel 24mpg but would not be without it. Still reasonable build quality hilux d4d 100bhp just about adequate for towing but excellent on fuel 35mpg or more if careful. Mk 5 still reasonable build quality with better engine. hilux d4d 130hp Mk 6 good for towing. Dont know about fuel. Had a demo one was not keen, felt big with hard suspension noisey and revvy in the cab for a 25k motor. Well finished with some quality nowhere near as tough as original hilux. For some reason the single cabs only have a load margin of 700kg the extra cab and double cab nearly 1100kg. My choice would be a Mk 5 extra cab with d4d engine. Or I would try a isuzu Rodeo the rest I personally would not even look at no matter how cheap.

    Not looking for the most dangerous just most useful. I spent the day doing some much needed maintenance on our Hakki pilki 2x after the gland unscrewed from the piston. After 2 hours of logging at 12.15 saturday the saw bar return spring snaps ( 2nd genuine one in 6 months ) of course all engineering shops shut at 12. Went to the local guy who repairs washing machines and robbed all the scrap machines. 2 bosch springs linked together works a treat. Another occasion fitted a new pump drive rubber element ( genuine ) lasted 30 mins. Now have a tougher pattern unit fitted.

    We have had a 2x for the last 6 years. near on rebuilt it this week. It will stonk out some serious wood for you but it works best between 4-9 inch . If you get 250mm timber in 3 metre lengths do your backs and feed conveyour a favour and cut it to 1m lengths. You will be able to do an 8 hour day and repeat the next day. Two of us run the machine alternating between prep and operating.

    As the owner of the business with experience in operating the processor I would say you are the person to carry out on the job training. I would spend a minimum of 40 hrs working the machine together. Give him 1/2 hour bursts on the controls after this the concentration goes out the window. Document the progress and when you feel he is safe and confident put him with your other employee. A processor is quite a complicated machine when you first start of I always think its abit like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time.

    I use oregon bars on my processor. They get a total dogs life and I never grease them the bar wears before the nose. I think the grease stops the oil getting to the bearings
