  1. A small cut to us may mean a lost finger to a child young fingers are alot softer. Try and find a safe way. I got my worst finger injury about 6 months ago from a small jig saw. Been using big mean machines for over 20 years but did that hurt, had to put my head between my legs like a big girls blouse. The bolt on the blade squashed my finger into the case the allen head bolt went through the nail:thumbdown:
  2. Sell to everyone, try everything, see what comes out on top. Pubs get through alot of kindling as they dont have time to play around with there fires and no time to cut up pallets. Local log sellers often dont have a good source and loose a good profit stream. Making a pound a bag on kindling does not seem alot until you find you are selling 500 a week and not having to make them:thumbup1: the trick is not to buy rubbish kindling for £1 a bag but then I would say that:biggrin:
  3. Would be great to supply you with kindling. We dont have minimum orders if its worth you collecting its worth us selling. I dont really know anything about pallets as we have never used them far to labour intensive. We have small village garages that sell 100 nets a week in cold weather. The big boys are just that too big. Best aim for local independants.
  4. depends on your timber if you have 20 acres of 8" ash to get out in the next 5 years a processor makes sense. If you buy in your average 26 tonne wagon of cord, half will be too big and 1/4 will be too small to be efficent through a processor. A safe guarded saw bench with conveyor for £1500 will handle 3" sticks, processor size stuff and billets leaving plenty of money for a decent splitter.
  5. I think we are too far away to be any help. We sell to arb talk members for £1.60 a bag, some sell onto garages for £2.50 they then retail for around £3.95 maybe you could find a member near you in the directory. Pallets are not a great idea as alot have chemicals and paint on which your not supposed to use.
  6. Rikko are just up the road from us I should take some time to go and have a look. The Wp36 looks good for the money. Not sure how the rest of you guys have got on but after the last two winters this year looks a bit sad for us. The price of cord got so High last January it would have priced us out of the market round here. It got cheaper in August by which time it was late so we are well stocked for next year. Be careful of investing big money in processors Ie 20-30k as alot of people in the past got a grant for half the money. A processor for under 10k new I think is doable but you need some serious amounts of straight timber to get a wage and make it pay back in 3 years. Less than half the cord I buy is under 14"
  7. That looks vastly better sorting the bogies makes a big difference on its own. Not sure if I said but the blue tits love nesting in the mast I think those holes must be just the right size.
  8. We had this built by Boulters in Aldermaston about two years ago. You could get it built for about £2000 + vat but with a few extras I think ours was £2400.00 . It had to be proffesionally done with a serial no and cert for the nfu insurance. It Has been absolutely brilliant 100% reliable. the only down side is payload will only ever be about 400kg on these hilux. If you loose some weight, leave the spare at home and dont fill it with fuel you should get about 1.5 cu of dry logs in.
  9. The king super cab is the best truck to do as it has the best payload
  10. Stihl about £10
  11. I am looking for a large grab for my 10 tonne crane trailer but I think that may be too big. Its difficult to see the size without standing next to it. The tractor must be nearly 4ft wide so it must open to 8ft. If it was useable I would be interested.
  12. I worked for Onan in 1988 for two years. I still have some manuals in my workshop.
  13. They have dropped the price because they are not shifting volume. This time last year oil was £1 a litre. Now its 59p still. The public are short of money if its mild you can keep the thermostate turned down. As has been said you dont want to be supplying the cheap seats. Its trendy at the moment to complain for no reason and get a part refund.
  14. If it has been seasoned in rounds and not cord could be it has sucked up some rain water as has been wet lately this will dry out quickly once under cover. If it has just been processed from cord and measures 38% its green simples
  15. A kindlet without a wife is like a processor without a log deck ( just dont tell my wife )
  16. I am sure your wood is better than 90% of the stuff sold around you. But unless you ring and split into 10" logs and leave for 9 months through the summer it wont be seasoned. If you cut your stuff which has lost 8% moisture in a week in half you will find it could measure 38% in the middle. Not trying to rain on your parade but been there before. I have loads of timber in the yard looks great but its not going anywhere till next year. 20 % on the outside 35% in the middle.
  17. If you can tell it is releasing moisture when burning its wet.
  18. Its a bit like turning up at tesco's with the produce from your garden... if you see what I mean. You mean your produce is better than theirs but they want to pay peanuts for it. I found you often get twice as much if you cut it for firewood.
  19. If you really want to do kindling just buy the kindlet. When there are so many people doing wholesale kindling so cheap why bother. If you can make an easy £2 a bag why bust a gut to get the extra 30p.
  20. 1095 kg give or take 1 kg
  21. I would allow 45% for air space as been said I would expect about 6.5 tonnes in there and thats because its oak. Dont buy too much oak I dont think its great in small wood burners and you dont sell by weight so you dont get much volume out of your 6.5 tonne. Ash and beech more popular. Part seasoned beech bought by weight would be a good deal
  22. Paul Goulden is your man. Goulden Hardwoods he has a blog on the net and plays with wood near Andover. Travels into London so may pop by or have a look at that pick.
  23. I dont want to say on a public forum but there is nothing wrong with the machine.
