  1. we put a 11hp honda on our 10 tonne sheppach. The spitter has a 2" ram but the engine often stalls under load before the relief valve lets go. The splitter was originally 3 phase. Never got to the bottom of the problem but often feel it needs the 13hp or a little diesel with more torque.
  2. I did it once it did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling to see the 30 something reclined in his armchair beer can in hand watching the tv in the warm so I did not do it again. I also sussed out the log store every year would get further away from the drive to a more visually pleasing but ball aching location. My log sales are slow at the moment perhaps its my customer service
  3. Thanks for all the feed back its all sunk in and will be used to make the decision just need to get in front of the work so I can go and have a look.
  4. I have had experience of Brian Nixon and I am not going to say a word on here.
  5. I have been offered a really clean low hr 526 machine 1996 but its got manual control on the 4 w steering is this good or bad. I think later ones were electronic.
  6. Best thing I like is unloading an arctic everything from one side especially on single track roads saves turning round. And my planning is not the best so can grab a bulk bag 6 rows back. Replace that light on the corner of the building. If your going to spend good money on a forklift may as well spring a bit more and have a tele.
  7. They are not toys they are justifieable tax deductable useful additions to the business sometimes
  8. I bought a stove from scats when it was on a special deal like a 3rd of the price ( think they put the wrong label on ) I think it is made by arda down dorset way. Mega efficent stove and very controllable. I did not expect much for the money but its miles better than our hunter in the lounge.
  9. Anybody else use one ? need to keep the interest going. Put on a few more pounds since giving up logs.
  10. And there is a saying "the customer is always right when he pays on time"
  11. Thanks for the tip I did not realise JCB had an auction. I own the land but am planning to sell for devolopment within 4 years so will be on the move. I will need a surface that is really hard as I use a bobcat alot and it tears everything to bits. I am going to go with rowans idea of concrete sleepers as I can move them or take them with me. I have heard alot of moans about the small teles and a 526with 4 wheel steer is more manouverable than our mid 80's 525 also we do push the limits on lift cap regularly with the generators ( we dont wear the rear tyres out ) I am thinking late 90's low hrs mint condition for about 11k
  12. Sorry to see that sam is it covered by insurance or is it a self repair job.
  13. I did that a few years ago I decided best to replaster 2 months before lighting stove next time.
  14. I like the idea of the room seal kit. If you ever go up on the roof when your stove is off and feel the amount of central heating comming out the chimney it will frighten you
  15. Dont smash them up I can give them away with logs I know what you mean I bought a new stove a year ago for the office made by arda with a secondary burn wigit thingy and the difference is amazing the old stove was a waste of time and would eat 15 or 20 logs a day. New stove 5 logs and we have to leave the door to the yard open.
  16. We have a mountain of bone dry planned softwood we are turning into kindling we wont run out but may struggle to keep up with orders as cold weather hits. With a bit of notice we will do our best to deliver on time. Hope your log sales are going well and merry christmas to all our customers if we dont see you again before christmas.
  17. This also makes sense as softwood often leaves a very light fluffy ash which could easily be drawn up the chimney. self cleaning ash pan with softwood then
  18. I have a cheap racor filter with electric pump. I stick a pipe in all my tanks and sometimes its alarming how much water I am buying. I have a plastic heating oil tank new 8 years ago I took 30 litres of water out of it a few months ago.
  19. Beech maybe a hardwood but its soft as they go if you know what I mean. Out of all the woods to burn Beech is my favorite by miles I treat all my customers to the ash and oak.
  20. Snap need a newer tele have discounted the buggy and jcb 524-50 because I dont think they will get through our mud. more 526 manitou. something reasonably compact with 4w steer and drive. So many toys so little money he may not have a reserve as high as his buy it now som may be worth a punt for 6k you never know
  21. We just sold our int 684 which has run our processor for 6 years without missing a beat. An adaptor on the 1000 pto it sipped the fuel running the engine at 1200 rpm. I would not gear a diesel engine down so its running at 480 rpm you will get terrible slobbering.
  22. red diesel delivered before october is summer grade had same problem last year.
  23. Hi Jon in 3 days I have serviced a generator in Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle home now knackered not in the mood for delivering logs we are staying at edenvale farm saturday week.
  24. Why would you buy logs in advance. Thats what log sellers do buy cord 2 years in advance then cut i up 9 months before its needed then wait another 3 months for the cheap crap to run out. Then the customer can realise at 4pm christmas eve he only has 4 logs left.
  25. I can see what both sides are saying but nicks way makes sense as he is not transporting water and your not paying for it. It takes a bit of trust on both sides but from what I have seen in the posts nick delivers a good load. Sometimes you may be a little up sometimes a little down but firewood is not an exact science and if its not green it gets you slightly ahead of the game.
