  1. Processor sold tractors sold big timber trailer sold amount of cord processed this year 0 not missing the back ache yet but who knows
  2. realist with biomass pushing the price of timber up with their hand outs from the government. The log buying public wont pay more so the margins getting smaller. Get into pellets and chip and grab the subsidies.
  3. Is that all there is to it. I thought the haulage industry kicked up and stopped it unless u have an operators licence as well. Delivering for hire and reward rather than forestry operations.
  4. Its strange how cord wood price is fairly even across the country yet the price of the end product varies wildly. We live in a fairly wealthy part of Hampshire yet people sell logs all over for £60 a cubic metre loose loaded. If we cant deliver cord wood to the end user on a tractor how come the council can ?
  5. How do you tell if the bearings are going on your chipper. Should you be able to hear a noise from the bearings at low revs ? can you feel wear by moving the flywheel.
  6. If it was fitted by bolter or tip master it will have a certificate and serial plate pop riveted on. If it was an original ford tipper body no problem but if you tell porkys and have a nasty accident and they look into it they can wriggle out of a claim. I think tippers are bad news for insurance due to the overloading, type of work and locations and possible injury to public from load as it tips.
  7. I have a massive incinerator in the yard. Sometimes I get what looks like charcoal but wonder if it has any heat in it. If it looks like charcoal could it be or is it more scientific than that ?. Sometimes the incinerator burns right out to ash but caught right and shut the door and it seems to get results. I dont have a charcoal bbq but will have to try some out.
  8. Mines insured with nfu but only because it was fitted by an approved bodybuilding company and carries a serial no for the tipper conversion. If you go home made nfu wont touch it.
  9. Sounds like a plan buy a mog by the time the other half realises you have it from the bills comming in it will either be invaluable or you will be bored with it. Either way new toy to play with.
  10. Sounds like you need a u900 mog not one of those big 80's things. Small enough to get into the job big enough to carry chip out.
  11. And three times as much from us wholesale
  12. That thumb looks a bit close to the blade. Might take some time for us to get our 20,000 bags a year out.
  13. You need a stabilizer I find a fully loaded ifor williams trailer does the trick but I think thats another thread
  14. The double carries more weight than the single cab and the extra cab more still. The extra cab would be the best compromise as it has a bit more load space. I am not keen on building to high that far back on the chassis. Try and keep the weight down on the build by using ally floor and sides. Dont put too big a ram on otherwise before you know it the new body weighs 1/2 a tonne and you can only carry 500kg inc driver.
  15. The biggest one was the best value for money only about £300 more but its just a monster for most jobs
  16. Our old trailer is about the size of the smallest new one. Its been modified to 2 cu metres with divider. The new numbers must relate to the sizes of the trailers in metric. The small trailer will be a bit top heavy for 4cu metres as you can see from pic. I was going to put a pic up but none on this pc if anyone is interested I will put one up from the office.
  17. Sounds like a good idea but I would be a bit concerned if the magnets came off and the filings were dumped in the engine in one go. Some vehicles also have a centrifugal filter which seems to work well. I dont think you can beat a good service at half the recommended miles or hours.
  18. I have an old Honda one for about 15 years should give it an oil change really. Use it more than one of those toy ones. more power and less string breakage with 4 spools. Less crap in your face and your not carrying it. Bit hard on the lower back until you build up the muscles. Not ideal for strimming along walls or fences or steep banks. If mine died I would buy another.
  19. I would imagine since engine oils have evolved to allow them to stay in the engine for 20,000 miles and hold the dirt in suspension there will be alot more crap in it than there was 20 years ago.
  20. Ibc work better than the vent bags aswell. I cut the bottles up and get 6 lids out of 1 1000 litre bottle.
  21. The reason I want a hydraulic feed is our stuff is a bit tough bushy knarled and forked. We dont have nice straight hazel willow or sycamore. Its more elder, hawthorn, conifer and caked in ivy. If i have to cut it up too much may as well put it through my huge incinerator. Soon I will be surrounded by houses so thought I better bite the bullet early.
  22. I think the problem is if its wood its on its way to a power station with the government ( tax payer ) picking up half the bill.
  23. Our bags are 40x50 and we currently charge £1.60 a bag but we are booked solid for months and getting the timber is becomming a pita. You are right to get it local send it any distance and the only person making a good margin is the courier.
  24. Which did a test on all of them and zen were top with plusnet second all the other popular ones were nr the bottom with awfull scores
