  1. I dont think the dealers care less about selling defenders especially to working people. Why would they when they can sell vogue to a wag for 100k. I tried to buy an ex demo disco 4 van 18 months old 60k on the clock and they wanted £1500 less than new price. When I haggled they were down right rude.
  2. Also later vehicles look better to the customer, are nicer to own and drive, Feels better going to work in a new vehicle rather than a pile of smoking bones.
  3. Busiest time of year for kindling sales so flat out. We have given up logs but even we are surprised not one phone call since March just shows how many people do logs round our way and cheeeeeap.
  4. I used to buy a new vehicle and save up half the cost put the rest on a personal loan. If you put it on hp its easier for them to snatch it back and leave you with nothing if you default on payment. I never intended to stop payments but in these times you never know when a breather might be needed. If its on a personal loan and you have paid a large part off they will struggle to get your truck especially if its essential to earn a living. After loads of problems with new trucks I now run 4 olds ones all now over 10 years old. New diesels have become far too electronic and unreliable.
  5. I think he took the advice to wait till winter. You could try sending him a pm That way you can discuss a deal in private.
  6. Kill or cure gallon of jons cider and 40 mins in hot tub full blast at 37 deg an idea but not recommended
  7. makes me break wind but my backs ok
  8. Yeah its got to be worth a go I will get my wife to grow one so she makes more kindling
  9. We use soak mats that only soak up oil not water. If I have a leak I glue them to a piece of wood and chuck them under. I have not tried stop leak but dont like the sound of it especially in modern engines with really tight clearances. I would worry if a seal is rejuvenated ( softened ) will it break up and if it does where will it end up.
  10. I cut logs with a friend for 5 years when we started he had to watch his bad back. But did not have a problem after a few months. We stopped doing logs a year ago and since both of us have had more back problems. I think alot of bending and stretching helped keep the problems away. Doing logs does not neccessarily give you a bad back. Overdoing it will kill your back. The other thing we found is too warm up gently with small stuff. He recently put his back out looking under the bed. That seems to be one of the worse postures to put your back out pulling stuff from under the bed.
  11. Best get and cancel mine if its not worth the paper its written on save £3000 a year.
  12. Are you sure its not on your equipment. Are your filters in the right place.
  13. The worse thing for nails is when people make a tree house and nail steps on. I had a piece of ash a few weeks ago with 27 4" nails in a 10ft length. Managed to ring it for fire wood without killing the chain. I used a ms180 slow going but cheap chain if it goes pearshaped.
  14. 20 years ago I used to get and install 1 in 10 generators I quoted. Then 5 years ago it had dropped to 1 in 100 and the margins were tiny. So now we dont look for generator sales. We used to take all repairs offered because we offered service as an overall package taking the rough with the smooth. Now I vet any work offered very carefully if people can buy on line and get couriered in they can send the crap back that way for repair. We concentrate and target the profitable parts of our industry. You may have noticed some suppliers less interested in new business and your accounts getting shut if not used regularly a generally cant be asked attitude in the country.
  15. Its the same in most industries. Brewers fair do two nice meals for £10 with a pint ea and pudding around £20. Go to most local independant pubs you will be faced with a sour faced old bitch long wait and cold food dead atmosphere and a bill for £50. Point I am making is there is a recession and alot of people just dont have spare money. Things in some cases are getting cheaper and trades men unfortunately are one of them. You can leave your generators unserviced or let your trees grow but you need to go to the supermarket for food and petrol.
  16. You have to earn a good wage to pay rates on a small business. Alot of small businesses dont relies that they can ask for excemption due to low profits. Since the greedy pigs brought the country to its knees its time the working classes got something back.
  17. Yes I know nightmare. I think there is probably more the further north you go. Cant really use stuff thats grown in someones garden as it has too many branches.
  18. I am sure my doctor told me if you sneeze or cough up green stuff you have an infection often you will fight it off without medication. The thing I find the worse to work with is sycamore especially if its spalted agony in the eyes. I think spaulted beech is bad news too.
  19. I have seen piles of them at Brian Hirst Scrap yard nr st marybourne. He has recently bought the yard and is having a clear out. It used to be called J Hirst and sons. Could be worth a call if you are quick.
  20. Everybody knows you dont need to be safe at home. You can forget all that h&S stuff when it means spending your own money. Make do and mend at home and rely on common sense, but thats where it all falls down because they have trained common sense out of them. My brother is a healthy and safety officer if he can dig up enough problems he can go days with out lifting a spanner or breaking in to a sweat. Health and safety succeeds where scargil failed.
  21. green mech still make the same model so all details including owners manual is on line.
  22. yes I think transit can tow 2000 kg so easily. They tow really well very stable on the motorway.
  23. You could ask chestnut on here but not seen a post for years.
  24. It is big but the shredder folds when transported but could see on a drive you would be stood in a flower bed on occassions. Also you cant run the chipper with the shredder folded up. Its heavy to at about 1200kg so need old fart licence to tow it. Part of the reason its heavy I think it feels well made.
  25. The blades in the chipper are completely seperate to the shredder. I think there is 4 in the chipper and 22 in the shredder. They can be sharpened and when one side is blunt can be turned round 3 times. Only used it for about 20 mins so far so cant report much. The speed of the chipper frightened me when I first used it not had a chipper for about 10 years they have improved alot.
