  1. Always buy him a drink and dont insult him
  2. there is no perfect vehicle otherwise we would all have one. The defender ticks alot of boxes for alot of people. I think they are a bit like marmite.
  3. Either the hilux is made by vw or the amarak is made on the hilux line with a vw lump in it

    what 4x4

a true Landrover enthusiast. It did not get stuck in mud

    what 4x4

We had 3 300tdi over about 8 years for towing. They all suffered with head gasket failure between pots 3 and 4, cambelts snapping and water pumps were cheap and nasty with one little bearing. Every time they needed discs the bearings had to come off and no guts for towing at 70mph. Saying that I towed over 300k between them and felt they were still a good truck at the time dont be afraid of getting a td5 if its genuine. Our TD5 has now done 160k without any major engine work. If you get a good one and look after it they are a good truck. Get a bad one that has been abused or cooked then you are in big trouble. The void bushes are far better and the discs are knock on knock off so 1 hr and £50 for a pair.
  6. I thought the Anarak was made by Toyota.
  7. From my experience of towing big generators about for 25 years. You need a truck with permanent 4 wheel drive weighing ideally over 2500kg. It needs a low first gear and a good sturdy clutch. Forget autos we have wrecked even the Amazon 4.2 autos. Air suspension on the back or coil springs leaf springs rarely work well when towing. The worst vehicle I have towed with was the d22 Navara we had 16 trailers at the time and it was poor with all of them you could see the cab jumping around on the light weight springy chassis.
  8. True in hindsight the defender weighs around 2 tonne and is not great for towing 3.5 tonnes it does have the edge on alot of the double cabs because it has permanent 4 wheel drive. The new discos are better as they weigh far more
  9. None of these trucks are any good they have heaters what are the Landrover geeks going to do with their thermal underwear
  10. Anything that weighs under 2.5 tonne and is not permanent 4x4 is not going to be ideal for towing 3.5 tonnes. The Amazon, disco 3/4 and defender are ok.
  11. I hired a hilux for 3 months in 2002 while I waited for the fantastic new Nissan Navara. What a pile of crap that was should have got a mk 5 hilux straight off will never wait for a new model again especially a Ford or Nissan.
  12. We used to sell car parts on ebay to send 1kg is expensive, easier to send 10kg and you know it will arrive next day.
  13. They like alchohol on the breath is your wife tee total. I was getting a few bites a couple of weeks ago so switched the fly zapper back on seems to help. Also make sure the are no buckets of stale water nr your house.
  14. But round wood could be rings. With the term cordwood it puts a stack of timber in lengths in mind.
  15. Part of the reason I use a bench grinder so much is the crap files are blunt after two chains of course the main reason is my hand sharpening is crap aswell
  16. When its green they sell by the tonne when its seasoned they sell by the metre and increase the price as well. Your right their not daft
  17. A few months ago I would have been in the car and down to see you. I have gone a different route which hopefully should kick in this week. If it goes pear shaped I would be interested in a price delivered to andover on a wagon and drag ( cant get an arctic in ) We are interested in making it into Kindling. Have the trees been grown in a forest or in a line.
  18. Nice straight timber around 8-12" with no knots about 3 metres long. Not the crowns with 20 sticks poking out that tree surgeons call arb arisings

    what 4x4

The reason Landrover tends to be better off road is long suspension travel they can reach down on un even ground. Also They tend to get fitted with mud terrain tyres which I dont fit to a nice jap 4x4 as it would ruin the nice road manners. Not a problem on a defender it has not got any. I run discovery, hilux and Amazon 3 different vehicles 3 different jobs.
  20. You got sarcastic remarks because you came on a forum full of log merchants and accused them of being dishonest but its ok the wink on the end suggests your cleverer than that. Post 5 " Funny how suppliers never say "well it's a 0.7 cubic metre bag but it won't contain 0.7 cubic metres of logs." Maybe that would affect sales. But what would I know "
  21. 130 posts about a possible £10 worth of missing timber thats got to be a record. I bet we have investigated and interigated more than the police do after an armed robbery. So to sum up your better off buying off ebay from a picture of a big bag in cumbria and collecting it after paying with paypal ( assuming thats not the only big bag he owns )
  22. And the bloke on ebay still has not said whats in the bag
  23. Buy from people who specify the volume. Find someone local you can trust and stick with them. You get what you pay for. You are unlikely to find any bargains on ebay now with there high selling fees. Everything I have looked at on ebay this week costs a third more than from a normal person.
  24. But you cant quote a customer for a stacked cubic metre because if you stack it twice you will get a different result. Just to add something else into the mix we use 1.5 cubic metre bags if we use them a couple of times they stretch a bit and we always bounce them as we load them to settle the load. Tipped some this week into my tipper which is exactly 2 cu metres and each bag filled it to the brim. So if you think you are pulling a fast one doing bulk bags you may actually be doing the customer a favour. We always sell by the cubic metre and heap the load incase it settles on route so often a tipped load will be 2.2 cu metres rather than 2.
  25. Jon I thought early on in this thread this has to be a Butler wind up but now I have no idea this bloke might actually be serious. Still not as mad as some of yours Jon
