  8. : As for sat looking forward to it, though bit concerend at just what everyones expecting from it, just hope I deliver! though Ive got david to back me up so even if i fail miserably I can run a way and leave david to it! Just kidding david! Should be a good day though, if they enjoy it half as much as i always do it will be great. I can speak for myself but i'm sure I speak for others too. I'm not expecting nothing except a wander in a great wood with like minded people. Yes i will be hungry for knowledge but will take what is offered and will ask questions but very informally. Dont worry tony it will be a good day.....unless of course you really are a fungal charlatan and the woods are sparse and all these photos you have been posting are from another site!!

  20. So back in the park after a wee sabbatical. Big white Pop fell. This tree is just inside the perimeter wall with some very very big houses on the other side. Thjere has been some contentious issues surrounding this particular tree which i will not go into......anyway the tree had to go! Have a couple of weeks reducing heights of existing monoliths as well as creating new ones. Lots of laborious (yet at times interesting) bat checks with the endoscope and mewp. Am going to try and post images from within these big old oaks because the endoscope picks up some weird and wonderful beasties. Big Oak failure this afternoon. Co dominant stem on a vet literally 'unplugged'. A very weighty limb just popped out. Very wet brown rot. Old pruning wound just below. Wet brown rot. No evidence of fruiting bodies.

  23. I completed this course last year and managed to pass it too. I worked full time for the duration of the course. I also have 3 kids form the ages of 4 and 15. Yes it gets a bit much and trying to find time (especially quiet time) to get the work done can be a bit of a mission at times. We were lucky enough to rent a small room out which I went to twice a week to 'study'. This proved invaluable but as the exams drew closer then studying withion the family home became paramount too. For this discipline is essential. We decide that for instance thursday would be a study night. All the family knew this although when its all kicking off with kids its very hard to sit there and ignore it because its my 'study night'. Read Read read.......just keep on reading. It becomes apparent early on where to focus more time within the modules. As with anything you will retain more info about 1 subject than the other. If a module is boring.....info retention is harder. I decided quite early on that i would concentrate my energy and efforts into 3 modules and neglected the 4th. My reason being that i didnt want to spread myself too thin. If i could pass 3 then i would be vey happy to return the following year and just re-take 1 module. It eased the workload and my focus was now on the 3. With a month to the exams i shifted towards the 4th. I managed a pass in all 4 written modules. College support i didnt find too helpful to be honest. But they supplied (most) of the material needed and then I found arbtalk which helped me no end. Arbtalk as a resource for this course is exceptional. ASK ASK ASK......dont get lazy and expect everybody on here to do all the work but use the wealth of experience that resides here. People work/study in different ways. Work out a system for yourself and everything will be fine. Dont stress and fret.....if you pass you pass. If you dont then that isnt a reflection on your intelligence. Self study whilst trying to run a life/employment is time consuming and draining. Theres always the next year to pass a couple of modules if needed. Good luck
