  1. I can't stand thieves but I must admit I got sucked in with the 'romanticism' of this blag. A few old duffers with the audacity and balls to carry out this job and succeed to a degree. The fact it was from a vault, that the victims were the super rich blah blah. Having taken a step back however my feelings have changed. They are criminals, I have paid for this case indirectly, there are victims, some of these guys are connected to Kenneth Noy, cop killer and road rage murderer. Do you think that these harmless old boys would be so harmless if somebody had crossed them? I doubt it. There would have been consequences I'm sure. It is all too easy to carried away with the medias reporting of this case, to see it through rose tinted specs, I am guilty of that but can see the bigger picture. That's my 2 bobs.
  2. I've so got to go there. I've been reading a lot about it lately. One day😄
  3. Sorry, that just made me laugh. Must be a good system though if you can post on Arbtalk and climb at the same time?
  4. Out and about in Somerset
  5. Some of them are with an iPhone but the light has to be good
  6. Sure you didn't have a few and came round with your face implanted in some fallen deadwood after taking a stumble?
  7. I had a great eve last night with Julian Hight down in Taunton where he was promoting his new book World Tree Story. A great talk and slide show looking at the myths and legends surrounding some of the worlds oldest trees. A follow up to Britains Tree Story it is once again a very interesting and beautiful book. 8. Today I received my Yew fountain pen. It really is a thing of beauty. Very impressed. Thanks Ian:thumbup:
  9. As I said the optimum word here is 'tentatively'. Just researching at the moment but I guess that's how all books begin their life. but thanks for all your words of encouragement. Watch this space I guess:001_smile:
  10. Hi Can anybody recommend tree suppliers/nurseries in the Forest of Dean please? Cheers
  11. Cheers Geoff, your encouraging words went a long way in pushing me on with it. Who knows where it will end up but I have nothing to lose by beginning the collation of material. I will start a thread for people to share info, images etc.
  12. I have tentatively began researching with the aim of possibly putting a book about pollarding together. This will collate historical records, photographs, landscape paintings, maps etc and look at the history of pollarding in this country. I aim to look at what species were used for what, look at the cultural heritage side of it as well it's role in industry. Once I have moved forwards a little I will begin a thread so hopefully members can contribute information, pass on contacts etc. I really feel there is room for a comprehensive book on the subject as there isn't anything out there apart Technical guides etc and it was such an important part of our cultural heritage. Anyway we shall see where it goes.
  13. Will be there. Are you up in Lincolnshire in a fortnight for the ATF meet?
  14. That's amazing. Love the arch.
  15. Great to see the difference in size of the fruiter at the very bottom. Fantastic tree.
  16. The Regent. Just read previous post:blushing:
  17. Superb. Is that in the Grand Union? There's one similar to that in Bristol also. Terrific idea.
