  1. Cheers Geoff that'd be great. Would be a good reason to meet up as well.
  2. Brilliant, thanks for the info. Will check it out.
  3. Thanks Geoff. And yes I am still thinking along those lines and I guess have implemented them to a degree as in I'm reading and looking for old photographs and basically doing some initial research. One thing I am not short on is time so I hope to use it wisely during what is going to be a long recovery period for me.
  4. Sounds like a nice project to be involved in. During my time in hospital I thought a lot about pollards ( who knows why?). I was thinking about doing a book looking at the subject of pollards in this country. Look at the history, differing techniques from region to region, lots of old photographs, new photographs, blah de blah.
  5. Personally I think there should be grants available to landowners to plant and maintain trees as pollards. A massive loss to the landscape both culturally and as key components to bio diversity

    My accident

Aspire is a charity which helps and provides support for people with spinal injuries. Whilst I was in hospital they provided me with a lot of support and have continued to do so since I was discharged. When I left hospital I was unable to go home as it wasn't suitable for a wheelchair. Aspire provided me with an adapted bungalow which had all mod cons to be used by myself and my family until our new home was adapted. During what was a traumatic time for us all this was a godsend and I'm not sure what we would have done without it. They own properties all over the country and this is one way where their support is invaluable. Headgroundsmen Arbtalk member works for them also I believe. My sister is running her first marathon to raise money for Aspire. If you guys could sponsor her a little I would appreciate it as not only will it be raising money for this great charity but also supporting my sis who I am very proud of. Many thanks https://www.justgiving.com/NikkiKing...aign=pfp-share

  13. I'm not getting wound. Feeling pretty chilled actually. Just debating it. I've seen enoug of your posts to know you operate a professional outfit. As I said earlier though our industry has a bad enough name at times as it is. Surely it is in our interests to get rid of those who do not give a monkeys and give e industry a bad name. Plus somebody is paying to have a job done, properly. I don't care what industry it is I hate to see people paying for a job that is done shoddily on purpose.
  14. I always found them really good to get in to tight spaces also and good for worming ones way through the crown of a tree.
  15. Come on, we know it will not kill it but it's not going to do it any good either. I'm gobsmacked that so many people find this to be acceptable. Spiking a tree to do a reduction is not on.
  16. I think you should definitely. And I admire you for doing so. It's shoddy Treeworks full stop.
  17. I've used one many times. In a period of 4 years I had to brig the basket down once manually due to a failure. Always found it to be a good bit of kit TBH
  18. And work in a conservation area should be carried out in accordance with BS3998. And nowhere in there will it say that reductions can be carried out on spikes. It's in all our interests to maintain respectability and trust in our industry to stamp out cowboyish Arb work
  19. Come on Steve. We shouldn't just be ignoring shoddy work like that. Spiking a tree to do a reduction is a ridiculous thing to be doing.
