  1. yer i was going to mount it ontop of the ram but desided it was far easier to just mount it off the frame and its in a easy position to work it aswell. mine is a detent valve also same as yours it clicks into neutral at the end of the in and out stroke but i prefer to just stop it as its waste of time going all the way back in for the size of logs we split.
  2. yer we need someone who will really hammer them back as were all pros here we wont do it ps you alright with them dates then or still working it out?
  3. yer i remember you said he never paid you for that reduction you did for him that alex is on about
  4. should think that will cost as much if not more than taking the tree down!
  5. got most of it painted up now, got the job done early today so had a little first proper play with it. its only pop its splitting in the video, i was splitting knotty conifer and euc aswell it doesnt struggle, really pleased with how its turned out. just need to make up a removable table on the front to catch the split material to ease the use of it stop it all falling on the floor once split.
  6. i wouldnt think so, otherwise they would be over run with bollards, no one wants them really
  7. think we have used our bollard once or twice just to try it out, we always use the winch for lowering they can take a beating there designed well long as you wrap the rope round it the right way will take what you will give it.
  8. 2010 l200 9000miles on it Landy 2006 97000 on it The landy id change anyday i could!!
  9. Bought mine a few days ago, should i have got my numbers by now?
  10. Im sure it would 90% of arbs use 3.5tonners
  11. i know for a fact, that pictures tell a totally different story to real life. no chance of getting all the chip and timber on one legal load from the pictures i would price it for 1.5 days distance from yard depending, day to get it all down and chipped, then come back for couple hours remove timber and clean up properly. 600 plus vat
  12. not alot to offer from this year havent really taken many pics. so raided a vid from this year. the redwood would have been brill if only it hadnt been a couple of weeks into last year
  13. So ive been looking through the net, its not illegal i was wrong there, just very rarely accepted. Found a document its got to be a complete last resort, and no other way. Which in tree surgery is never going to be a arguement as every tree is acendable Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Show me some black and white evidence that its allowed in the uk, im going by what ive looked up on the net and what ive been told by the drivers.
  15. Its illegal in the uk to ride the hook without being in a cage, the drivers would lose there job if they got caught, ive had drivers that will let me some are a total no way.
  16. mine only makes a bang because i used the old knife off one of my splitters and the 4 way split is a attachment that just slips over the top of the welded knife, so it moves about. when useing the single split knife theres no noise. as for the angle i guess if it was angled towards the log it would help, i havent done this though i just welded it on level does the job.
  17. yer i did mention in the original post under the link that the video was just a quick test before i drilled and bolted the brackets that hug the RSJ
  18. I tryed to think long and hard where do i want the control for the least effort, its quite a stiff action to move the lever so i cant imagine acidently moving it. But worth remembering though
  19. I used flowfit they have a website, cost wise wouldnt be huge if you have a tractor to hook up to rams are pretty cheap really, get in contact with flowfit they will sort you out brill service Flowfit the leading worldwide suppliers of hydraulic components
  20. Not to sure on the tonnage, my old splitter was 7 ton that never didnt split anything, speed is more what i was after. I mig welded it all with my clarke 160turbo i could have used gas but i didnt so its all gasless welds im far from a decent welder etc i just love tinkering and seeing what i come out with. You will never no if you dont try i say give it ago
  21. over the last month i have been having a laugh in the evening messing about, making my own log splitter. we have 2 log splitters which we bought they are vertical and painfully slow to use. with this project my main aim was to make it towable and fast. started by buying a RSJ and started welding up the brackets etc. made my self a box section frame to fit in a little trailer i had in my shed doing nothing. bought all new hydraulics. was going to use a briggs 12HP motor i had out of a 30yr old lawn tractor got it all ready to test, the motor ran but it really wasnt up to the task anymore, so ordered in a new honda GX390 13HP so basically its a little beast of a machine now tested it out on a 2ft main union ring of euc and 4 way split that no issues. only issue ive had so far is the pusher plate needs a brace to the very top of it as that is starting to bend as i was planning on trimming it down so never braced it high up. im pretty chuffed really what a few hours with hardly any tools on my own can make up. just need to finish it off, just need to finish priming it and then final coat of paint, and build a table to catch the split logs. in the vid this was just a test run hence it wobbling around, that was before i drilled and bolted the brackets that ride around the RSJ to keep it from moving side to side and up an down. its not the prettiest splitter you will see but im pleased with it.
  22. We got a call from the sunday independant yesterday about the recent storms, dan took the call, nice to get a little company mention in there anyways no idea why they rang us.
  23. Not looking good for us were getting battered with the wind today. Got a scots pine to sort out tomorow, the winds not letting up yet though.
