Toying with fitting some of the ones that drop into the ground fitted inside my lock up( has a concrete base). Was wondering if anybody has much experience with them, more in that will they stop a gypsie that backs up to the lock up and breaks in, will it stop my chipper from going? from previous experience i had a container broken in where they backed up to it and sing a chain and hook and simply ripped off the iron box welded over the lock to hinder access and then sawed through the lock. are the posts any good incase a similar method is used? I always think that the yank trucks seem better suited for the job. All seem to have big chip bodies but also lots of kit storage. I never see anything over here day to day that looks as well suited. Apart from the rare custom built large trucks some of the bigger setup guys on here have obviously but they are quite rare i think. Tempted to buy one from the states but wouldnt know where to start!

i had one with a transit body fitted. came with it. Put so greddy boards and away we went.

Surely just because something is expensive it doesnt alway make it better. I had a pair of those hiax boots that cost £220. Biggest pile of dog poo ever. My bro had a pair too and within a few weeks the sole fell off. Mine i manages to alradite back together. sole wore out in less than 6 months too. The cheaper hiax blue work just as well and go on for ever. I have always used the husky helmets, 10 yrs and haven't had any problems. Even had a pretty hard knock to the head and it did its job perfectly. I would like to think that they all have to conform to a minimum standard so to assume its safer because it more expensive is just rubbish. Dont get me wrong i could see myself in the orange and black one but not at £200. if it was 100- 120 max i would be very tempted

'but theres only 2 of you'. old boss pulled up to a job, old boy walking along went straight into a rant (no idea why). boss just repeated merry Christmas over and over till eventually he responded (was almos xmas). then they talked. i was wetting myself:lol: Dogs. Turned up to this job and it was very much pykie like area. Guy had a dog that was pure muscle, thing was the body builder champ of the dog world. Was desperately trying to get to the neighbors dog through a solid iron gate. Damn bars were nearly bending. We get inside and i ask him to put the dog away so we can work. Oh hes a softy and wouldnt hurt a fly. Yeah right i have had dogs all my life and this thing was pure aggression and was giving me the eye too. has to use the line i didnt want him getting hurt. I think i could dropa sawon him and not hurt him!

Dont get me started on the NHS! the other half works for them and when she tells me about it it makes my blood boil! If i ran my company like they do i properly would be in jail ( and without a doubt bankrupt in about 5mins). tarring everybody with the same brush reminds me of a funny episode i had once. Doing so subcontract work in Wokingham berks and a guy walking his dog comes up to me and starts having a go, we r all cowboys etc. Totally confused so asked a few questions and it turns out he had emplyed some gypsies in Nottingham to do work and had got stung. I pointed out that it costs thousands of pounds to achieve the qualifications we have to be a tree surgeon. Not interested. So i changed track. Recently a young boy had sadly been mauled to death by a dog. So i said see you dogs- horrible dangerous things. They should all be destroyed as they go around killing children! He didnt say a work but did a quick about turn and a hasty retreat. oh and actually i love dogs and have my own but didnt tell him that:thumbup:

had 2 council guys near me worked all day to raise 1 tree and cut some bushes. I swear i would have taken us 1 hr to do. guy was very nice but even admitted himself to feeling like it was a waste. He wasnt allowed any power tools even though he had tickets ( all that was needed was a hedge cutter and a pole saw. They then spent another day picking it all up. Asked him why they dint chip it as i know the council has a lovely great chipper ( large vemeer). His response? His boss was the only one allowed to tow it and by his own admission couldnt be bothered to get it out of the yard. Result- Paying shorts down the road to process it, to which the council then buy back the mulch to use on its beddings. Was gob smacked!

my wife hit a car from behind, you could barely see the dent in the bumper ( 2000 ford focus). Drivers baby didnt even wake up. I have it on my insurance as a claim for £12000!!! Could have replaced the car brand new for less. Oh and six moths after the crash the baby was claiming for wipe lash. I kid you not.

I have done for about 2 yrs now. Took a while to get use to it, use to drop a few feet with the lightest of touch. Now its a bit older it doesnt run so freely. TBH i will be going back to a old style prussuk slider. I find that it is really easy to create a lot of resistance when i dont want it. If trying to get out on a branch it doesnt want to let me release more rope without 2 hands fighting it. add to the that the cost and i cant see me getting another one. i like my kit simple, less to go wrong tbh. but each to there own i guess.

spoke to the chap, pushing for trying to keep the tree. kind of funny in a way as i told him i think it needs to come down as it will always be a risk. then he tried to get me to say to him that it would be ok to reduce it. if i would say it then he would go for a reduction. Unfortunately we live in a world where sueing is a real risk and there is no way i can predict if it will fail or not years down the line after a reduction so its not worth the potential liability for me. Going there monday so will let u know what we decide cheers

touch wood i have trimmed all year for over 10 yrs and not had a problem. I do avoid if in flower, if possible as they are budding, when we r in the middle of a drought and most importantly if we are experiencing a very hard frost/ snow fall. the last is aimed a bit more towards the conifer hedges tbh.

yes its a private garden, though if it fails there is a slim chance of hitting the garage. Personally i was thinking fell but had not thought of pollard. You say initiation of a pollard, would you reduce it in a couple of goes or go straight to a pole (would have thought a bit harsh for a oak)? I will have a chat with the owner. He will replant as he is actually quite a tree lover which is a good thing really. Many thanks

Got these pictures sent to me today of an oak which has started to split apart. I have not seen it in the flesh yet myself but looking at the pictures what would you recommend? The customer would like to keep the tree if possible but obviously needs it to be safe. Would you go for a hard reduction or just say fell to ground to be safe? Thoughts appreciated.

My daughter hit her cousin on the trampoline the other day, 3 vs 10yrs old. Spiral fracture of the lower leg. just had the cast off 4 wks later. Thats a real ball ache as it was the whole leg up to the thigh. She was off running the next day and soon realised it made a wicked weapon! all fun and games

New style fuel caps alwasy seem to break on my blower which is odd as it only gets open once a week or so. 4 stroke machine dont seem to stay in tune for long. Need to look for this trigger thread as i have had 3 ms200t triggers break recently.

Sorry for slow response. I really like the smaller chippers. We do a lot of London work where we push the chippers around by hand, down paths etc so light weight is important. I would love a big machine but i dont have the need really. I still remember the days of having older kit and tbh i like the feeling of security ( i guess) that when i get to site 50 miles from home and i turn the key it is going to work. I would rather spend some money to have a newer machine than to have break downs and lose not only earnings but also the headache of trying to reschedule work back in when i am booked up for the next 2 months.
