    what vehicle?

Yes i am VAT registered. I am suffering from practicality vs looking good vs just getting from A to B Many a MG owner would argue that its not a rover its a MG, but i dont really care. To me it does look very much like a rover 75. It handles brilliantly, goes stops and turns so well. Yes its rwd and if you turn of the traction control you can have a blast! if u have a min youtube clarkson driving it on topgear. cheers
  3. after so thoughts really. i have always wanted a big v8 engined car, finally got on a year ago. Got a MGZT260 (4.6V8 from a mustang). Its loud and fast and has all the bells and whisltes. Problem is i can see it in the eyes of customers when i go pricing they see a shiny (2 tone paint scheme) noisy and probably expensive car and they are thinking this guys charges too much! In fact the cares values is 7k On top of that i dont do a lot of miles (except in the work truck). ALso maybe i am getting old but as i said its loud!. Sounds fantastic but theses days its a bit much for me! (kids not to keen either!) So i am thinking of changing it in. Thinking 3 different vehicles Pickup (Crew cab navara) Second truck ( toyota dyna) small run around (yaris etc) The vehicle is to be used to collect the kids from school occasional, pricing, shopping etc. Has to have at least 3 seats ( got 2 kids). Not massive so can fit into a parking bay (my transit is too fat to do the school run in) My company is small, only 3 of us so we rarely need a second truck and if we do i normally just rent for the day. I am however getting into doing firewood this coming winter. Tempted by a pickup and sticking the tipper body that i have seen a chap on here advertise. that way it can deliver logs of take a small load of chippings. Or do i just get a small car, cheap to run easy to park etc? Budget depends on the vehicle, if a run around the around 6k, if truck or pickup then around 13k. And am i right in saying i should be able to run a navara as a company vehicle and get the VAT back? Thoughts please cos i cant think what is the best route! cheers
  4. i spoke to a guy around my way (wokingham, berks) and he started talking £300 pcm for a tiny shared corner, no joke u couldnt fit a artic in it, then split it 3 ways! nice guy but i would be doing firewood to pay him and make a loss at that rate! start asking around farmer etc. good luck
  5. Well it sounds like some of you guys are having a much worse start than me! at least the sun was shining today Thanks for the replys and lets hope nobody needs add to this with more bad news Jose
  6. Anybody else having one? 1st job turned into a right pig. Poplar stump which i did about 5 yrs ago to come down. It was easy twice the size i rememberd! 13 hr day in the bad weather with a touchy customer! Only saving grace a neighbour took a truck load of logs saving us coming back the next day and actually costing us money! 2 days later i come home to find someone screw drivered the drivers lock to try and nick my little diahatsu fourtrack. only failed as the battery was flat as i havnt used it for quite a while. Typical as i am just getting it ready to sell and now got to get a new lock fitted and it damaged the lovely paint work. All this in my first week back! and i had a good feeling about this year too. jose

    winch job

only thing that smells is the dirty water its in the tree fell over 2 yrs ago and i cleared it up but the remainig stump and butt was lying on the dirt so we dint want to do in the chains digging dirt. Since then the gardener has tried to lever it up a bit and it has actually moved up about 6 inches so you could cut off the remaining timber without any worries. The problem is it was originally on the edge of the stream so there isnt any kind of hole where the root plate was so it needs to go up over the edge again. Actually tbh its really a ditch, about 3-4ft deep and 3-4ft wide i guess. as far as i know nobody else has looked as i am good friends with the gardener and hes the one who got me in the first time and again this time. All honesty i dont want it, i mean theres only so much you can put on a job, and i dont really know where to start with regards to the time it will take and the hire costs and strengts of the winches etc. Hence why i thought i would offer it up to thoses who may have done this kind of thing before.

    winch job

Hi all. Been asked to remove a large beech stump that fell into a small stream a couple of years ago. I dont ever do any and dont have the kit or knowledge to do it. Its at the bottom of a garden with not access other than by foot so no machinery access. The trunk is still about 6ft from the ground level however its almost lying flat on the ground. there are a few trees nearby that could be used to winch from, at most 5 m away at a guess. The job is in Ascot, Berks Anybody interested please pm me and then we could go have a look. If i am passing again i will pop in and get some pics. Many thanks Jose
  10. i used a 45 m one not long back and was about £900 a day with operator. Fantastic machine, the out reach was unbeliveable! and 45 m doesnt sound to high untill u go all the way up and the 18ton lorry looks like a toy beneath u! used a 16m truck mounted yesterday and that was not bad, got higher than the roof of a 4 story building. that was about £300 operate for the day, get them from panther platforms.
  11. has anybody actually got a reversing camera fitted? Keep thinking about it as i have the same issues ( i have to try and visulise how far round it has come, sometimes get it right other time not). I always get someone to watch me back aswell, if i hit something then they r getting the blame/bill!!!
  12. ahh i had a thought in my head it might be something like that but without confirmation i wast happy to go ahead and try it! Thanks. Just out of interest how much play (up and down slack) do u allow in the belts? Cheers Jose
  13. Hi all I have a predator 450 and i need to tighten the belts. Manual i got with it mentions checking the belts are correctly tensiond but nothing on how to actually do it. Mine popped of yestereday, i have put them back on but there is atleast 1 1/2 inches of slack and when engaged they seemed to flap around a bit. Can some one give me a quick breakdown of whats needed to adjust them. Many thanks Jose
  14. call dbm hire in henley, their predator is always breaking down. I am sure they will sell it to you.
  15. Hi there I am after a supplier for teeth for my predator 450. Also after any info for large stump grinder hire in Berks. I mainly use DBM hire ( formerly arbourplant) but lets just say i am not going to any more. I know d&d in camberly do hire but they have a way of making my blood boil just asking for a quote over the phone! Many thanks

Lately i am have been getting very impatient with the kids, snappy with the wife. I come home hoping there are no emails from people wanting smoething/anything! As much as i love the job i almost look forward to bad weather so i can try and convince myself that its dangerous and should not be working! funny thing is until seeing this thread this evening i had not even considered that i might be stressed! i got good health ( apaart from some flu this week), 2 healthy kids and a wife who loves me. a successful bussiness with my brother (and get on really well with him to), family all back me up with moral support.
