  1. i'd say winter but can't say i've ever had any experience of moving trees bigger than a normal standard
  2. it is if its a baby twee!
  3. Going off that pic alone, i'd say a Tilia sp. but more that likely an Acer (saccharinum)?
  4. I can live with that, good call:thumbup:
  5. but it's more than a "guess" though isn't it david:001_rolleyes: (i'd say he's right on the money:biggrin:
  6. Rover, agree with jwade, Paulownia tomentosa, beautiful tree:biggrin:
  7. kev i'd say yours was either a shoot off Abies bracteata or Pseudotsuga menziesii, more than likely the latter, but..... there ain't enough info there to make a 100% positive ID:001_rolleyes:
  8. Don't thin the bark is right for Cydonia sp. so I will also stick my neck out and say Malus
  9. Cankers are very much common place on this hybrid and due to bud proliferation, they form an the main trunk and branchwork (a distinguishing feature in winter for identification purposes). It isn't known what does this but it is thought to be viral and this hybrid is also more susceptible to HCBC that tree above looks to be suffering these "bud proliferation cankers" at the base where yearly epicormic is situated, and as stated i wouldn't be too worried about failure, more vascular cambium tissue shutting down as david says:biggrin: (or HCBC!)

  14. Haha, it's common practice near me (work), even from "in-house" too! Two ash trees (fairly large, and urban) have been taken down today, one healthy, one with hispidus The one with hispidus could of easily become a workable Pollard where it was, and the healthy one (which I took down) would of been fine with a reduction... Thought we were supposed to "care for trees" Sent from my Galaxy S2
  15. Haha, bit gutted about this tree though, didn't needed to come down in my opinion, but someone had to do the dirty deed, so kept comforting her as each piece came off... piece, by piece.... Haha that makes me sound nuts! Sent from my Galaxy S2

  18. I don't think a 3.5t is feasible for tree work unless you just wanna drive round with an empty van:001_rolleyes: So it would be a toss up between the other two, and that would depend on your circumstances as they are VERY different vehicles with different attributes Sent from my Galaxy S2
  19. its defo not Cynara cardunculus
  20. i was thinking of a bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare), but think mabbs has got it right with the scotch thistle (Onopordon acanthium)
