  1. It's my understanding that OPM caterpillars ARE predated upon until they reach their third instar, when they develop the urticating hairs.
  2. I found it interesting that they show the "fruit" of our Enlish oak as a gall, rather than an acorn. (just to prove I have actually looked through it )
  3. That makes a change from the usual pigeons and starlings you see in the park, doesn't it?
  4. I was always taught that you shouldn't use any sort of fresh, uncomposted vegetable matter as a mulch as it can "rob" the soil of nitrogen. However, if Glyn Percival et al now say that it's perfectly ok to use such mulches, then I'll go along with them.
  5. That sounds like a perfect excuse to get out into the wilds for a bit of fiels study
  6. That's one of my faves . Orange tips are one of the first butterflies to emerge and are a sure sign that spring has arrived. We still get quite a lot of them around this aways, which is surprising considering how urbanised we are. Nice post.
  7. On the plus side, it should be a good year for fledglings down your way with all that extra food available.
  8. I've only ever used Renteq, sometimes in conjunction with Sean's lot Unfortunately, I can't give you a guesstimate on the price.
  9. You could always put in a request for them to be TPO'd, if you think it's expedient.
  10. If you ever get the opportunity, try to go there. It's small, so it won't take you long but it's well worth it to to see the way art and medicine can be combined

  11. So what's your guess? Hmm?

It's a picture I took of a picture from an exhibition at The Welcome Gallery, London of plant cell division Wellcome Image Awards 2011 | Wellcome Image Awards

    Cool, n'est pas? X

  12. Who pressed the RED BUTTON??? It was down until some time mid morning today
  13. Ok, smartypants, is there any blanket protection for trees within our National Parks, other than the usual Planning regs?
  14. Am I correct in thinking that trees within the National Parks boundaries are covered by Con Area Regs ?
  15. It would be nice to think that our peers and colleagues all work to the same high moral standards, but it's unfortunate that there are wrong'uns in every clique. Just look at some the recent episodes of Watchdog
  16. Love those bracts It's such a pretty tree and I don't see anywhere near enough of them.

The creatives behind that one deserve a big bonus Funny AND cute
  18. Your famous by proxy What a great community scheme and I hope it goes well
  19. I think there's a very dubious double en tendre with the "highway to the danger zone" lyric. Don't get it, myself
  20. They should have. If they haven't got one available in your local library, they can order it for you. A great resource and much under used
  21. Mmmm, ballistic budgie smugglers. It could be the way to go, lads
  22. It all depends on what you want to do with your career. If you want to stay on the tools for the forseeable, then ditto what Alex says above. It's good to have some theory so you know why you're doing what you do, but practical quals and experience will serve you better. However, if you want to have more flexibilty in your future career and you can see yourself in a more managerial role at some point, then I'd say do the highest qual you can. You can still work weekends and part time during the week while you're at college, so it's not like you're going to be stuck in a classroom solidly for the next few years.
  23. Arrggghhhhh!!! The mental images that you have just caused will scar me for life. Sorry Rob, he started it...
