Bear with me, I still haven't got the hang of multi quoting... That is one seriously cool pic I'm glad you said previously that it was on a lily leaf or I would've had problems trying to desipher what it was.

I'm sooooo glad you have reemerged from ferretting around trees to share your wisdom with us. LoL. I thought my reading up was going to mildly impress you n' all
  3. You're just so ungrateful!!! The AA give you all those opportunities to escape the grim Oop Norf and get yourself to some more civilised places in the the beautiful south and you can't even thank them for it. Pah, you ingrate.

Cool. I'll look forward to that. The exuviae (I've been swatting) look so prehistoric. These are the little beasties that I'm out surveying for at the moment. The pics aren't the best, unfortunately. They don't look like they could put you in hospital, do they?! The stag just happened to be at the side of the path.
  5. Hi hon, it's nice of you to introduce yourself like that and show us a little bit of what you're about

Fab pictures again I'm starting to get into the onatas (damsel and dragonflies) and I reckon that's an immature male large red damselfly. (That's what my book says, anyway )
  7. I'd much rather him sitting in my garden than the scraggy little squirrely vandals that I've got at the moment. Very nice
  8. Totally ditto on that But I still wouldn't let a lack of decent food (and I'm one of the faddiest eaters going) detract from the whole point of the 'fair: the tree stuff.
  9. Am I missing something here??? You go to an arboricultural trade fair to look at shiny new kit and big noisy wood eating things. If you want gourmet finger food and that's your top priority for the day then you go to a farmer's market or something similar. I would have thought the quality of the snacks would be kind of immaterial when that's not actually what you went there for in the first place. Boys and their sausages...

Race? What race? It's more like an afternoon of punting.
  11. Top marks to your fambly, even if they do try and give you nightmares with scary tree pics. Mine are hopeless, to the extent that my mum once aked me who she needed to talk to at the local Council to get some tree advice from

    War Horse

I was lucky enough to get to indulge my more cultured, luvvie non tree side yesterday and went to see War Horse at London's New London Theatre. War Horse | New London Theatre This show is AMAZING. The acting, singing and of course, the puppeteering is simply astounding and way surpasses all the reviews. I cried. My friend cried. Most of the audience around me cried. Tears of sadness and tears of joy. It was awsomely good and about the best production I've ever been to. It was possibly even worth missing sausagegate at the AA Trade Fair for . If any of you get the opportunity to go to this then jump at it - you'll enjoy it immensely. And you can impress your team mates on a Monday morning with your knowledge of the Arts.

Hmm, I wonder how it got it's common name... Thick legged flower beetle. Very apt.
  14. I saw that in yesterday's paper. I didn't want to admit to being a Daily Mail reader though

I've got a pretty shiny bug of my own that needs IDing, if you'd be so kind.
  17. It's coz you're special It does that to me occasionally and then goes back to normal without me having to do anything at all. Honest. I blame Steve
  18. Aw T, that's awful . I hope you get the majority if not all of them back. Why on earth weren't the research pics at least backed up or hosted online??? Bad T.
  19. Ours (West London) are still merrily shedding bark and oozing. The Cameraria numbers are starting to build up now as well, although they don't visually seem as bad as this time last year.
  20. I've just seen that on the news - uber ouch!!! I bet he's come away from that in a lot better state than some of the spectators. It seems to have been a bad day for crashes. Our man is out of the British MotoGP as well motogp.com · Crutchlow to miss home race after QP crash

I'll get Googling. That'll be tax deductable as well, won't it:sneaky2:?
  22. I caught it the first time around on Beeb One and very, very good it was too I noticed this for later on BBC iPlayer - Botany: A Blooming History: A Confusion of Names, which looks really good. In a geeky, I need to get out more kind of way
  23. Hi Sburby, what's the species of caterpillars that the bands have been put in place for? (And without wanting to get all Mary Whitehouse on you, your signature could do with toning down a bit. Publically viewable 'site, kids, etc.. )

Thanks, hon. I actually understood you as well . What's the Canon like for taking macros without the additional lens? I'm not, and probably never will be, into photography as a medium per se; I just love the extreme close ups of nature specimens and I would like to able to acheive something similar myself on a tight fisted amateur budget. I also like the idea of being able to get highly detailed zoomed in pics for when I'm tree and OPM surveying. Is there a reasonably priced, muppet proof camera on the market that can accomplish both?
