  1. Get on Bri- its only got to -2 down here!!
  2. Just reread your post- dumping it into the exhaust would have very different effects to an engine starved of diesel. That could well be what they do.
  3. Unburnt diesel is black. Check out this tatra truck as is reaches the top of the hill- tatras have the ability to dump shed loads of diesel into the engine for a bit more grunt.......sounds awesome too! Not sure about that with challengers- cant see for a moment how that would work- maybe they arent dumping extra fuel in, but adding something to the fuel? I thought they had smoke cartridges plastered all over the outside? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwSh1v4qbIU]YouTube - Truck Trial Balve 2007 3[/ame]
  4. Beech, ash, oak, sycamore, larch offcuts from the mill, holm oak, odd bit of macrocarpa and even some leylandii!
  5. Max towing is 2 tonne, on road only, and a 10x5 ifor tipper weighs a tonne. Waste of time IMO. Get a disco.
  6. white smoke from a diesel is fuel starvation- you must have had a weak pump or blocked filters. The filter in the lift pump is faviourite for that one.
  7. What on earth are you on about?
  8. I think that all stihl chains are designed to be sharpened with the file at 90 degrees to the bar, some husky ones need the file to be angled up or down by a bit. Is this what you mean?
  9. As above 2 posts.
  10. Couldnt agree more. Bring on the cold. I overheat even on cool days. All equipment fine.
  11. and that is one of the fastest routes to killing your turbo, and generally knackering an engine. If it wont start in the cold, you have aproblem which needs sorting.
  12. Those tdi landrover engines shouldnt need heater plugs anyway- i almost never use mine. The 200tdi was an awesome starter.
  13. If it started no bother with the lift pump given a helping hand it would suggest that the fuel is not staying pressurised in the injector pump. A non return valve wouldnt necessarily be man enough to maintain the high pressure your engine requires, which would suggest that your internal injector pump seals may be on the way out, remedied by a pump rebuild (not horrifically expensive BTW). It could be that the lift pump is getting worn too, but i see this as less likely as it worked manually. (unless there is wera to the operating arm making the action less effective, altough i doubt this)
  14. Is it a tdi engine steve? A tdi should always have a big puff of unburnt smoke when it starts darren. Thinking about this steve, you could take the injector pump off yourself and have it looked at by a diesel electric specialist- they would be able to tell you exactly what is wrong (if anything) and advise on a repair. It could be the stop solenoid not releasing in the pump (which could be a loose contact anywhere from the ignition key to the pump, or the solenoid itself). It could be the govenor in the pump playing up (these are usually a replaceable part in the top of the pump) or it could be the internal seals in the pump starting to go. The fact that you are getting it going at all would suggest to me that it isnt needing a new pump, as when the injector pump goes its usually a case of the thing not working at all. Have you looked at the lift poump? maybe thats getting weak. What does the car run like when its going-fine or down on power? what colour smoke comes out of the exhaust? what is the oil on the dipstick looking like? (outside chance of head gasket probs)
  15. Steve there is a fuse and a relay in the glow plug circuit- have the relay checked first before any expensive repairs........and dont ever go on about how crap landies are over jap stuff, i cab get a new fuel pump for £600:sneaky2:
  16. A small one yes.
  17. I only found out on friday, and i didnt have a card on me, so next week ill get some.
  18. Good news if you are after knives for vermeer chippers. Genuine knives have come alot down in price, and there is a further offer on at the moment:thumbup:: Vermeer UK
  19. Yeah its a good idea, but it is painfully slow.
  20. Got any pics Jon?
  21. MAny happy returns mate- when did you reach that age:sneaky2:
  22. NOught wrong with old gear, its worn out gear that is the problem. My defender is 15 years old, and has left me in the lurch once in 8 years of ownership, my chipper is even older and the lift pump went the other day. I had a new one off deutz within 24 hours, fitted it, and it fell apart after about 10 minutes. I rented a greenmech to get me out of the proverbial, and deutz sorted me with another lift pump under warranty the next day. no loss of earnings, and it took me about 20 mins to fit the pump. Dont know if any of that is relevant, but there you are.
  23. BAD news mate. Very sorry to hear that. Any more details- where you are etc, what the kit was. Its a long shot but you never know who's looking.
