  2. You need to look at what you would be happy with just for splitting. Obviously you can't charge as much on a day rate as you would for treework. I would try and work out what volume of logs you'll end up with. What would you personally be able to sell them for and discount that down if that makes sense?
  3. That is superb:thumbup:
  4. An intersting post and good read. Well posted Ian:congrats:
  5. Hello Mark and welcome to the forum. I would hope you have 'priced in' the cost or time for the log splitting. Most of the guys on here would have started in business without a log splitter and it's probably going to be your best bet to do it yourself. Sycamore is really easy to split with a decent axe. Why not have a go? Anything thats a bit gnarly, you could cut up with a saw or take away? That's my opinion anyway! John
  6. or be a smoker? Looks like I cannot apply to your ad Stevie? Oh well, carry on!!Ha ha
  7. Agree all the way with you. For some reason, round here (Cheshire) there is a big lack of work. Most of the guys I know are quiet and the phone has just stopped ringing. I think it's the recession actually biting hard here. A lot of builders are leafleting for gardening, turfing and even tree work. There's no point in me moaning about it, it's time to ride it out and dig in in my opinion.
  8. That's excellent. What are the pegs made from?
  9. Ha ha just read this you cheeky ...............! Just taken down a 60 year old cherry. Downside was the client wanted the wood. Absolutely beautiful!

  14. Take stock and do something unusual? I've just turned 50 and am going to take a fast track motorbike course. Then plan on doing a tour:thumbup1:
  15. In that case, you need a holiday and plenty of time to think
  16. Been with a Blakes Hitch and sticking with it
  17. You are just frustrated Dean. You need to take a step back and think about what you really want. Then get rid of the things in your head that you THINK you need and go for it. Does that make any sense?
  18. Nigel, just to clarify then. This applies to new machines, NOT existing ones?
  19. That modification is going to make the chipper unstable?Any comments?
  20. Happy Birthday Dean:beerchug:
  21. Makes you wonder that you could carve a live tree in england? Or is it unethical
