  1. They do seem quite keen on breaking break bands from what i have seen
  2. i was in the workshop of a rather large tree firm today and was amazed to see no less than 5 broken 560's. dont think i will look at one for a long time . on the plus side we have had the T540 on trial for the last 3 weeks and i must say i will not be buying another 201T ! infact as soon as the T540 is for sale i will be selling the hardly used 201T (AKA - paper weight/door stop) !!
  3. i would highly reccomend getting a mog IF you are going to use it for chipping into , working off road (not in the woods), have plenty of spare cash , a handy hgv/agg fitter and if you have not considdered getting something like a valtra with roof mount crane , hyd services , front and rear 3 point linkage and a decent trailer. all in all i really can not see that a mog (say u1600) is going to be as usefull in the woods as a decent valmet with the right spec . any way good luck and if u do wish to look at some mogs then i would highly rate A.C Price
  4. Bob mind you maners , im sure your really proud to be a part of abig firm that ticks all the boxes ! realy i am pleased for you , if as you state small firms do not comply with the same as big firms i would question how so many small firms can gain the same AAAC staus as you big boys ? and no im not talking about the recent Small business AAAC scheme . Maybe the grow up and be real comment applies to you too
  5. Not true , many small firms abide with the rues that you have listed ,yes there wil always be firms or any size that do not comply and its with that in mind that something does need to be done .
  6. Not at all , i have generalised the fact that the larger firms do have in imput into the rules and regs , and yes some do feel that its acceptable to bend the rules as does every other firm . But to be honest steve i should humble at your presence as a moderator and bow down to your expert judgment .
  7. Thats the problem with most of the industry from what i can see , worse still many feel that it is none of their business . Many large firms have an imput into new regs and standards that the rest of us are expected to follow so why should the big firms fel the need to not comply ?
  8. WELL !!!!!! i did ask for a new pair of chainsaw boots ! i was offered only the socks to go in them , so i thought i would ask for a new rope bag/rucksack i was then told to get knotted !!! seems socks are all im getting at the verry most !!!!!!!
  9. Jason was that your trailer i saw last week behind an R&R unit ?
  10. Actually steve it has something to do with all of us , will you not complain when insurance premiums take a hike due the the hightened number of accidents occouring within the industry ? i know for sure i would be a little miffed that my premium goes up when i have done nothing to cause it . im a firm believer that it is important for all firms be it large or small demmonstrate that they are compliant with current hse regs at the verry least .
  11. anyway give amberon a call or garreth at southwest traffic services
  12. we all know how hard it is to "comply" in the arb world , the constant change due to every tree , every job spec and almost every site being diferent and having their own unique issues BUT at no point should the princaple Rules that keep every man on site safe be flauted . Anway Mark what made you take the step to using a harness ?
  13. TBH there is taking a short cut and TAKING A SHORT CUT ,yes we all take the odd shocut to get the job done BUT using a mewp on the side of the road without a harness is just asking for trouble IMO
  14. have you got chapter 8 / street works tickets ? the only reason i ask is that most firms wil ask for them down here - it is probably just as chep to get someone like amberon to set up some two way lights and they deal with the highway applications . I would offer to hire you our signs and stop/go but we are falt out at the moment and in need of it .
  15. it also depends on the size of the crane and the company your using . my advice would be to speak to a crane hire compant and get them to come out to site and assess if it is possible to get the right size crane onto the site , trust me ! i have had the joy of trying to take down a tree with a crane that was not big enough = not fun . when i say not big enough i mean that crane was on the limmits of lifting at such a reach . Good luck
  16. along with socks and sandles:laugh1:
  17. Sounds like an interesting method , could you post some pictures of each cut and some pics of the hinge once you have felled the tree ?
  18. Naaaa he faired ok , i have driven past the house several times and the chip is still as we dumped it !!!! and charles's hands are still baby soft i expect
  19. verry good and impressive , had that been my garden and i had to trim them i would put money on th fact that buy the end of the daythey all would have been felled , chopped and stum ground !!!!! as much as i would love to do stuff like that i just dont have the patience !!!!!!! Cracking job though
  20. i explained that the request was to tip the chip off and at no point were we asked to spread roughly 3 tons of chip and that should it still be expected then it would be an adition to the job and that it would be charged at an hourly rate , hence the reply i got from the cutomer was Hmmmmm i guess i will have to get my husbad charles to do it .
  21. a recent one - after tsking down 3 Sycamore's and starting to rake up the customer comes out and asks what we are going the wood chip , i explained that it would go back to the yard to be tipped with the other 10 or so tons of chip . The customer replied "would you charge to leave it here " no i said , so the customer asks me to tip it just down at the end of the drive right beside the bed's and lawn . So of we went and tipped a mog load o chip where we were asked to dump it , we then go back and finnish of clearing up and packing the kit away . just as we are about to leave (at about half 5 ) i ring the door bell , i then explain to the customer that we are dont and the invoice will folow in the next couple days . The customer looks at me in shock and asks why i have not spread the chip on all of the boarders and raked it out !!!! surely that means you have not finnished , do i get some money off !!!!!!
  22. often firms buy work and then expect contractors to come in and make up the short fall and also work for nothing . if you feel that you put in your best price then that is all you can do . But remember your not the one working for nothing .
  23. You tell then Big man your the Dadi !!!!!!!! oh did i tell you how impressed i am with you work recently ? just seems to gt better and better
  24. Right so what your saying is that because you drive a tractor you expect alldrivers to wait behind you because you wont pull over ! are you also expecting cars to then break the speed limmit to gain the time that you have held them up ?? personally and speaking from experience its not the other road users problem that you may not have planned the time its taking to travle on the road or that you have not factored it into your costs .
  25. i personally have more fun overtaking the tractor drivers that wont pull over even though they have had plenty of chances to do so !! you would be amazed how many of them get fed up being slowed to a mear 5mph !!!!!! often they get the hint and pull over , if not they best be prepared to wait for me lol
