  7. I have to say, I do not agree with some of the other comments on this thread. Poplar, although no good for firewood.. is timber, and is fibre, and therefore can be valuable in the right location and quantity supplied to the right market. I do not think 10 trees would be worth looking at as a standing sale, however, if they are reasonably large, and reasonably tall they may just scrape together a load. If this is the case then the load will be worth somewhere in the region of £30 a ton delivered, which makes the total load worth around £600 - £750. If somebody has the right contacts, and the right equipment, they could easily make a good days wage from felling and extracting this timber. In this particular case, reading between the lines I would think the land owner is trying to recover their costs for removal which is fair enough, albeit unrealistic in this case.

    Milwood prices vary from mill to mill mate..

     

    All pulpwood up here is cut to 3.0m and normally you'll get around the low 20's per tonne at roadside.

     

    Fencing is usually 3 to 4 inch, and posts are cut at 1.7m usually for stock post and 2.1 for deer post, they'll also take strainers at 2.4 I believe... mostlyall the fencing we've cut averages around £30 a ton at roadside

  10. It dosen't really work like that mate.. If you are pricing a standing sale, you need to look at what produce you'll cut from it, then work out what your costs are for harvesting and extraction. Take the sale price at roadside for whatever product you will produce and work back from there taking of your costs, then take off your margin, then you are left with your standing sale price/offer. It can vary wildly from site to site, which is why it's best to work out each site individually. Matt

If you have tried calling them and have been passed around the houses, I would be heading to thier office with a copy of the original purchase order/formalletter of go ahead, email etc and a copy of the invoice and politley ask to speak to the manager in charge of the job, and if he or she was unavailable I would ask to speak to a company director, MD etc. If this failed to raise a payment on the day then I would ask my solicitor to send them a copy of the invoice along with a letter giving them a formal warning that payment to settle within the next 7 days will result in legal action. If no payment came within 7 days I would instruct my solicitor to set legal proceeding against them and that would be that. It probably costs a bit more with a solicitor, but they do keep you right - and at the end of the day by this stage in the game it's about the principal of the matter. If the boot was on the other foot, and you owed money to them, being a factoring company, they would already have handed your account over to a debt collection company. It seems you have been quite lenient with them so I would be looking now to make things more formal and let them know in no uncertain terms that you do need to be paid, and if they do not pay the invoice in full then you will use the correct and legal mechanisms to force a payment. Tipping the waste back at their premises is very unprofessional IMO and would constitute an irrational act as you would most likely end up with a fine, or at the very least a caution for breach of the peace. Keep it legal, keep it professional and keep your reputation in tact
  13. No spare tyres I'm afraid.... Could do with a couple of new ones on the front of ours, the 1k each price tag puts me off a bit... Could do with a set of chains too.
  14. Cheers John, I'll try the merc guys in Inverness. Sometimes they're pretty good on parts actually.. often have to get them in from germany but have been (alot) cheaper than some of the unimog guys in the past.
  15. Ok, think I've worked out it has deffinatley got a front linkage now.. I think it will need an extension but thats no biggy. Still no further forward on a front linkage kit though
  16. Hi Guys, Looking for some advice from any MB Trac experts.. I am trying to figure out how to put a front linkage onto our machine, it has never been fitted with a front linkage and so I believe we will need to purchase the entire kit. Can anybody advise me on what type of linkage to get, approximate costs or components required to make the linkage? Are there any particular types of linkage we should be looking for, or would a standard front linkage with top link be sufficient to carry implements? Also, is it difficult to get the front PTO working? As far as i'm aware there is a front PTO on our machine, which has a cap over the end and is located just above the hydraulic tank at the front of the radiator. Any thoughts most welcome.. Matt

  20. Don't threaten to take them to court.... Just take them to court... as soon as the summons papers drop through their door they'll be paying up pretty quick.

Before working on Network Rail infrastructure, you need to have: 1) Pre Employment Medical 2) PTS Qualification 3) Sponsorship from a Link-up Approved company The medical should cost you in the region of £120 - £150 The PTS course is a two day training course with assessment and should cost around £220-£250. I have managed to get lads through the medicals and PTS for around £350 in the past. Once you've got your meds and PTS you need ot be sponsored, most likely from the company you'll be subbing to..this wont cost you anything. Rail work can be good, and can be (very) bad depending on the vegetation/terrain etc but I have found it enjoyable on the whole although tedious at times... Good luck with it mate!
  22. Not as far as I am aware... There is a woodchip terminal seemingly but I'm not aware of logs coming in. I dare say there will be logs coming in by invergordon by sea though.. Funnily enough we're trying to price up a log delivery by boat at the moment!

  24. Have had the same problem with mine... Have you been using arboroil in it or any bio oil? They seem to block up if left sitting for a while after using bio oil... strip the whole thing down and soak in thinners, petrol or solvent to get rid of it all. Easy fix.
