  1. Blimey - when you do your COSS recert we get about 2 hours to go over and resit the PTS exam!
  2. As far as I am aware the PTS course is still 2 days. The drugs and alcohol screen and medical can be done by any company registered with network rail to carry our pre employment medicals, for example we use Abermed. You must have a sponsor to go through PTS - they need the sponsor number to issue PTS cards and medical results.. M
  3. Hahaha - you go for it
  4. Already being done by two local companies, zip lining too.
  5. Very little tree work... Not enough to go round as it is. Touristy stuff is the way forward - wildlife watching or Photostalking, something like that...
  6. Need to use bunkered fuel to get a sensible price... I live just outside Aviemore - you get your pants pulled down for everything!
  7. Wrong.. You need to give the CIS deductions statement to your accountant in order to make sure: A) you dont end up paying tax on the total after the deduction through self assessment. B) you get the total amount deducted over the year offset against your income tax bill. C) get any rebate if entitled to it. Also worth noting, you should only have deductions made from the labour element of your invoice, not from any plant or hire charges..
  8. Can open... Worms everywhere. Sounds like you guys need to settle your differences and work it out - off ArbTalk I would suggest.
  9. Best thing you could do is stop moaning about it, and forget it.. move on. Harsh fact of reality - that's what people do in this industry. Best to chalk it up to experience and keep your cards closer to your chest in future..
  10. Thanks Bondtreeservices, i'll try and get back to you when I get back home
  11. Thanks Typsey, I'll try and pen a response when I get in..
  12. Because they work in Forestry/Arb
  13. Let me know how that goes Craig, If necessary I could organise a sponsor for you, but we haven't got any courses coming up in the next wee while. I'll certainly let you know if that changes though.. M
  14. I just posted alink to this document in the other thread about self employed/employed but in case anybody does not see it there, this may be of interest to anybody employing the services of a subbie, or an employee.. 29_ForestryworkersemploymentstatusNov12.doc
  15. This may be of interest to some of you.. HMRC are coming. 29_ForestryworkersemploymentstatusNov12.doc
  16. I would be taking advice from an accountant if I were you - if you are self employed then one would assume you use the services of an accountant anyway for your self assessment tax return. If you are a subcontractor, and work 3 days a week for this firm, then if you are bonafide then there should be no problem from either side as you have other clients.
  17. Hi Guss, Yes you need to be sponsored onto the course initially, or have a sponsor willing to put you through it. It comprises a medical, a drugs and alcohol test and then a two day training course. M
  18. Hi Guys, We're looking for a PTS Chainsaw Operative for an upcoming project starting at the end of January. Whilst we are looking for some extra help specifically for this job, ongoing work may be available both on and off track. Ideally you should have NPTC CS 30, NPTC CS 31, a valid PTS qualification and a valid First Aid ticket. An operative with climbing tickets may also be considered. Please email [email protected] with contact details and a brief summery of experience on and off Network Rail infrastructure. Cheers Matt
  19. Why not try them at £3.50 if they take 60 days to pay or offer them at £3 if they pay inside 30 days ??
  20. David - about 10 to 12 inch is the right time to start taking them down before the DED gets em!
  21. LPP - Risk of Dothistroma Why are you looking for a nurse crop for Sitka? Usually Sitka would be used as the nurse crop for something else. Do you need a mix for the restocking obligation or forest plan? The way the biomass market is at the moment, and likely to be for a long time to come, I would consider planting some fast growing species so that you can get a short rotation and get thinning as soon as possible. Maybe Birch and Sitka?
  22. I had a similar thing but was told that because the vehicle was registered as a LGV and not private that the 50mph rule applies..
  23. Been snowing here tonight!!
  24. Ask David Riding about hiring him in with his BMSL... its the ideal mulcher for thorn.
  25. Your trees down there weighing allot more than ours up here then!
