  1. I can tell you categorically that none of those trees are two tonne!
  2. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/employment/49738-chain-saw-operator-required.html
  3. Go to BTS and speak to them in their office. I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of phone calls and emails from guys looking for work on spec, and always want to follow it up but more often than not it gets pushed to the bottom of the pile because managers etc are busy and then forget. Go see them face to face, you'll give a much better impression!
  4. Thanks for the replies guys... I'll try the suggestions tomorrow from the office. Tried Wilsons and Komatsu Forest already, they're both out of stock... And Valmet in Sweden out of stock too !
  5. Hi Guys, Does anybody know of anyone breaking an 820 or a black cab 860? I'm looking for a cartridge solenoid for the working brake, and have not had much luck in locating a second hand one.. Cheers Matt
  6. Dave, That method wont work too well because you need warm air to get it to rise through the wood. The best way would be to build a frame over the wood with a pitched roof allowing airflow from both sides and underneath, and then if the logs sweat the condensation runs down the inside and drips onto the ground and not on your logs. If you can get hold of a cheap poly tunel, they work well too as the sun warms them up
  7. Michael.. Drop an email with a covering letter and full CV to [email protected] - there may be an opportunity coming up for some temporary work if you have the right tickets, but you'll need to take it up with the contract manager.
  8. Hi Guys, We're looking for a Harvester Operator to work on an excavator based machine with ongoing work throughout North Scotland. Please contact [email protected] in the first instance detailing experience and qualifications held (FMOC or CPCS required)
  9. Guss, could you drop me an email with a cv, contact details, covering letter and a list of competencies... We will be looking for forestry lads again shortly Cheers Matt [email protected]
  10. I am looking for a qualified COSS to join our team to work on rail projects - You will have a valid up to date PTS and Medical as well as COSS and LKT competencies. Deveg experience is desirable as well as chainsaw certificates/chipper/first aid. North Scotland location (Aberdeenshire, Morayshire, Inverness-shire) Please email [email protected] for more details Closing date: 5th October 2012
  11. Try contacting Donald Maclean at the FCA (Forestry Contractors Association) Donald does assessments, not sure about forwarder training though. I'd recommend having some sort of training, even if from another contractor that's well versed in the machines as a purpose built forwarder has allot to go wrong with it, and things can go very wrong if you don't know how to use them properly. Even simple things like loading and unloading techniques can save labouring the machine, and putting band tracks on and off can be allot easier if somebody shows you the right way to go about it. Matt
  12. Yes.... err... we've re-built one bogie already They are an amazing little forwarder.. I guess what ever size machine you have, you're always going to push it to the available limit...
  13. Sounds like Alder.. Cherry can do the same, but I assume you would sport the difference between Cherry and Alder. We had some thinning recently in Italian Alder which was very yellow when cut..
  14. Have you thought about using a poly-tunnel? They are modular so can be as long or as short as you like and can also be portable if needed. I'm not sure how good they are for seasoning, but I would imagine they could be vented too. Matt
  15. I've been keeping my eyes open for a while now... I saw one about two years ago for sale for £300... didn't need it then but seems like a bargain now! You're right about the 820... two bunks would be a bit much for her, but in my head it makes sense that she's only pulling the extra weight rather than carrying it? Really I should part-ex her towards an 840 or similar that will actually take two bunks.
  16. Does anybody know of any pole trailers for sale to go behind a Valmet 820 ?? I'm looking for one with twin bolsters/twin axle to take an additional bunk of 3m chip.. Also for extracting whole tree lengths. Cheers Matt
  17. You just cant make any money doing arb work in exchange for the timber... just cant do it.
  18. The branchwood is up for grabs too ey? Quick, give me his number!!!
  19. 8.00am or 8.30am depending on distance
  20. John.. You'll have to have somebody IRATA qualified for erecting that sort of structure.. I would think for the insurance to cover the works you'll have to have two guys, one an IRATA L1 and the other an IRATA L3 to keep you right. Sounds like an interesting project though... you should get some pics up once it's done! PS, sorry not got back to you on the chipping yet... not had a chance ot get my head together with that particular job yet. Matt
