  3. Cheers David, I've sent them an e-mail to see if they're interested. Matt
  4. Looking for a large scale fencing contractor for a possible upcoming contract. The work will be in Aviemore area, Inverness-shire and will consist of several miles of deer fencing. Anybody interested, please give me a shout. [email protected] Cheers Matt
  5. Hi Aye! I always put any job postings up on here, because I think it's a really useful way to contact people with minimal fuss..I hope it support Arbtalk a little too and encourages people to come on to the forum to check for jobs available. I like the fact we can do private messages or public messages here and so guys looking for work can talk directly to person posting. We're pretty busy, got quite a bit on the books, more coming in and some nice big projects underway now.. Alex is still with us but very much on a part time basis - he's a busy boy!
  6. Would be really good to hear how you get on with it fully loaded or towing... What about steep hills??
  7. That's quite interesting... So really, diesel is probably the most efficient fuel even though its more expensive, unless a fuel pump mod would allow use of vegetable oil etc. I'd not thought of using bio diesel.. I'd need to get a very regular supply as we are pretty high mileage
  8. hmmmm, maybe back to diesel then... we pay the highest fuel price in europe in north scotland, and its very painful on the wallet!
  9. I was thinking a transit Mike... not really decided, and will probably come down to cost in the end to be completley honest
  10. We've got two garages locally to get LPG, and possibly more in Inverness although not currently having an LPG vehicle I've never looked at the garages up there to be honest. It's trying to work out how to do that kind of mileage as cost efficiently as possible..
  11. We'd be looking to purchase a second hand vehicle with the gas side already fitted, and it will be used mainly for commuting a crew of three too and from site, covering approximately 4000 miles a month! This is what made me think of LPG to cut down the running costs, but another concern is lack of power, as it will need to tow a chipper now and again.
  12. Has anybody got an LPG/Dual fuel tipper? Are there any benefits over diesel, cost wise? We're looking to get a crewcab tipper and have been considering an LPG vehicle, but wonder if the cost of fuel works out much cheaper owing to the fact you get less miles per gallon running on LPG as opposed to regular diesel. Can anybody shed any light on this?? Thanks, Matt
  13. I had a squad working by loch ness today - you could have given it a test! should have organised a highland get together with some beerage!! Cracking day up here today, beautiful weather, you certainly picked a good one. Nice looking chipper too!!
  14. This position has now been filled. Thank you to all who applied for the Foreman's position, and very sorry to those who were not successful this time. We may be looking for another foreman on a new squad in the very near future, so please get in contact if you wish to be considered. Many thanks, Matt

  19. Maybe the contractor though that some cock would come down and try to pinch the logs?
  20. I'd bring one down for you if it was viable.... but the delivery alone would be over £500 You should be looking around £200 a day for a one day hire, on a sliding scale down to around £100-£120 a day for week hire/long term hire. Surely somebody must offer a hire service in London??
  21. I would agree wholeheartedly with this.... how difficult can it be to make a bar cover that actually fits the bar? Instead of supplying bars in cardboard sleeves on the shelf, sell them in plastic scabbards and charge an extra £5 for them, every time you buy a bar you have a cover that fits and for the same cost/packaging as the current cardboard packaging. I've lost count of the ammount of times i've cut my fingers trying to get the scabbard onto my 880!
  22. You can also buy one for a deep sea diver which will probably be the exact same quality!
  23. Sorry TCD - in regard to hand cutting, very dependent on size of timber.. As an average I would suggest roughly £17.50 per ton for hand cutting in pulp wood to roadside dependent on ground conditions, length of extraction etc. One of our recent jobs was £14.50 per ton but the trees we were cutting were 0.9m3 per stem, good clean stems and only one size to cut the whole lot to! Another job we did before christmas was closer to £20 per ton as we were cutting fence posts
  24. We could get into the realms of legality vs best practice vs common sense vs risk management vs safety here.... What a can of worms!
  25. That has got to cost literally pennies to manufacture! £30 odd quid! bloody hell! Like all chainsaw/arb kit, massivley over priced in comparrison to kit used in other industries. How much does a plumber pay for a pair of stilsons? How much does a sparky pay for a screwdriver? How much does a builder pay for a bucket or a trowel?
