  1. I always loctite mine too.... good practice in my opinion... also mark it up so if there is any movement its instantly noticeable
  2. I'm in the fear of ladders camp.... not too bad to access a tree but get me up a set to clean windows or get on a roof ladder and disco leg kicks off, I also get vertigo when I top out when I'm rock climbing, I've had a few wobbles on large poles too... just comes from nowhere... Its a healthy fear and has kept me safe and alert when undertaking work/leisure with risk involved.. It has also allowed me time to readdress my work plan and on occasion has allowed me to make a better decision. embrace the fear use it and allow it to guide you not rule you.... take care all....
  3. I hope you had the CVI pad out and got paid for the additional work.... Surely you have a standard specification you work too, if you re asked to go beyond this then extra costs are chargeable... ££££$$$$$$ If you did it gratis i bet this won't happen next time.... bang some extra ££$$ on the next few jobs you get from them and make up the difference...
  4. high regrowth points from topping wounds... very weak unions, no great anchor points or rigging points, looks like a right pain in the arse to get a MEWP near them without causing major road/traffic interference. (7.2 million visitors and all that). lots of well maintained grass shrub beds ect under them I imagine and a grade 2 listed wall in a conservation area, and a a strategic route, probably a friends group chained to the base and a load of doo gooders asking why are you killing the trees... also a whole load of epicorimic growth all over the buggers... anything else????
  5. Will be a pain to re-cut in 5-7 years time and as said before will mean quite ugly trees for % of the year when out of leaf.... I imagine the original idea was to has a beautiful avenue of limes were the canopys meet forming a spectacular corridor for passing traffic. Now with modern traffic and H&S issues we see more heavily managed but less attractive trees features in our towns and cities..... :crying:
  6. Mine was a MAKITA DCS SERIES with an 18" bar had it 14 years ago, i cane in a big red metal box and leaked chain oil from day 1 but never let me down, and great ground-saw with plenty of torque.. It was stolen in the end but be she's still running just had that indestructible feel to her...
  7. Does sound rather steep...... Crossfit Birmingham much cheaper..... £42.00 unlimited classes and open Gym:001_smile:
  8. I have been following a Crossfit training programme for the last 2 months and its really made a difference to my overall strength and stamina... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLFunBPgPOo]CrossFit Games 2010 Adidas Commercial - YouTube[/ame] Take a look at this link to see what its about.. Recommend it to all who have reached a glass roof with their fitness.. this will smash straight through it and beyond...
  9. Toolstation welding Gloves.. 2 options £2.50 ones do the job and some £5.00 ones a bit better but only just.. I go cheap and often as they all tend to get so filthy you're better off changing them than tying to clean them up...
  10. If they need to be yellow and type c your stuffed.... Plus a healthy price 2... feedback is the newer design stretch air are a better fit and more durable but still warm.....

  17. I'm sure there are the same percentage of women in all so called hard jobs.. fire fighters, rig divers, marines, ect and on average they more than cut the mustard and often more technical and competent than the average bear... but why else would they be doing it.. the average joe who ends up as a tree man probably fell into the indusrty as a way to earn good money at a young age and stuck with it, cam,t imagine any girl/woman in the game who did want to prove their worth as a phyisical world... the same as many a man who works in a hairdressers, works as a nurse or as primary school teacher, care worker. Not sure what i' trying to say but all the females i've worked with where the same as the blokes i've worked with.. all had strengths and weakness's, some were lazyandr boring, smelly and crude, stupid or mad... beautiful and interesting.... hard and strong... I will continue to judge all as individuals (except if they are fat as that = lazy).
  18. As far as I am aware all sites are specific (hence SSSI) so any restrictions/reccomedations would be specific the that site, if for fossils/geology can't see why fuel type would be an issue. if it for watland habitat or other ecological reasons then restrictions might be in place. We've used Aspen fuel before due to site resrictions. but plant nappies, fueling point selection and good work methods are just as if not more critical. anti spill knozzles... Silky, lopper and bilhook work might be considered. Also vehicle and plant movement needs to be considered. extraction restrictions, soft felling techniques and timing of works (season) all need to be considered. Fauna breeding seasons and movements may also be a consideration..... Lots and lots of extras that look good when you put in your quote/tender

  23. I think you will find that The CS units are assessements of competence... and would be a good defense if a legal issue or compensation claim was put against you, Totally agree that theres a few indiviuals that are totally incompetent and hold CS tickets... That says more about the inconssistent assessors that exist within NPTC,
