  1. Very cool! 1, how do you rate the corkscrew splitter? I'm thinking on putting 1 on my 3 tonner. 2, what's the story with your orange skid plate up front?
  2. There is a level of risk! You were unsure and filled with doubt! Good call! Even if there was zero risk you have taught your men that they can walk away if they feel unsure! Contracting to tight budgets makes most desicion making coming down to uttering a swear word then saying it! I've cut next to railway wires and sub stations holding my breath! Absolute madness and stupidity on my part.
  3. Have you considered the amount of pressure caused to make the break when comparing re growth?
  4. Your level of understanding due to not having the experience before is being overtaken by suspicion imo. Your saws are rattling around in the back of a cab, maybe it's a plastic liner or maybe you have sat heavier things ontop of the saw. It happens, well actually it has never happened to me but I secure my saws down and don't put heavy things on them Glad you got it fixed
  5. On what? And nothing happens for no reason, there must of been a stress caused somewhere!
  6. That's a lot of weight for a wee Mog.
  7. My Vat inspection took about an hour, we had everything labelled and set out neatly. The first time I did it I got 6 months fuel vat back and 3 years on assets, last time I did a few years ago it was 4 years with no fuel.
  8. When I de registered I sold all the stuff I bought for a contract so I don't know the situation if the kit was being kept! I stand corrected
  9. You only give it back if you sell the kit, Huck it's only if the kit is sold for £5k or more giving the minimum Vat of £1000. So basically guys if you want to buy some new kit or renew your old stuff you bought less than 4 years ago, like a van, chipper and a whole pile of saws, go Vat Reg, claim you previous Vat, put it towards your new kit which youngest the vat back on to, put a lot of new kit into your business, reduce your yearly profits by capital expenditure and depreciation be Vat Reg for the minimum about of time then de register. . You will pay very little tax for the next year and not have a large vat outlay. If you are planning on buying a home or financing new larger kit don't write too much off on depreciation the first year and keep your profit higher to help borrowing. It's not a dodge it's following the rules they put in place. My Vat inspection found another £1100 the bookkeeper missed.
  10. Expect a vat inspection too. Well I got 1. I've been on and off Vat Reg over the last 7 years just depending on machinery and volume of work. So if you go Vat, it doesn't work out you can stop, you just have to pay any Vat on assets you sell if the vat is more than £1k
  11. Yes, when I went Vat years ago I got £8k back on 3 years vat assets which paid for my new chipper. Anything you buy with vat gets deducted from what you charge with Vat for work. I think now it's 4 years Vat assets
  12. That was my thoughts on the subject!
  13. A couple of trees got it too, I wonder if any of you guys will be involved removing the timber
  14. Yours could be adapted with mounting an eye further back I would of thought
  15. I know what you mean, my mates got 1 on his 1.5 toner and you can't work close it, you have to pick things up at almost full reach.
  16. I've just turned 40 a few months back, got a few aches and pains! I'd welcome some tips from a 50 year old
  17. Thanks! https://www.facebook.com/MiningEarthmovingMachinery/videos/994444867269975/
  18. I think a hydraulic thumb would be excellent! Did you make your own? More pics if you could please
  19. Great piece of kit, I've never seen anything like that before!
