  1. I had one customer last year tell me he wasnt happy with his oak logs as they burned slow and hot for far to long? Didnt make sense to me. He ordered aload of softwood off me after that because he hoped it would burn abit quicker lol
  2. Cracking set up! Great video to. Im not sure why im going to tell you this, but it will bug me if i dont lol, i notice the saw starts to get slightly pinched towards the end of your cuts, do you think a small step cut would prevent that and you could then snap it off with the crane? Like i say it will bug me if i dont ask, and i have no crane experiance so please dont be offended by my question
  3. MOT's for trailers? Never heard about this one, when they bringing it into force? I would say the timberwolf 125, its called something liek that...
  4. Dont no about tippers, but my dad runs 2 renault masters with custom bodies. The engines are now both approaching 300,000miles and have only had the odd minor fault. In my experience there very good engines...
  5. This will point you in the right direction, Beechwood fires are bright and clear If the logs are kept a year, Chestnut's only good they say, If for logs 'tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold. Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E'en the very flames are cold But Ash green or Ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown. Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter's cold But Ash wet or Ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by. Generally though, if its seasoned, it will burn. Denser the wood, the better it will burn usually.
  6. I've been telling my customers ive run out, hope there back next year. Although i doubt il ever have trouble shifting logs. Everyones after some it seems

  8. I used this saw, it was badged as a makita but im sure its all the same. It was crap, had to be tuned out of the box as it wasnt running right. After tuning it we thought actually, it shouldnt be running like this so took it back to the shop for a replacment. The replacment was the same, but as it was cheap we persisted and tuned it up abit better. Then it started cutting out all the time, so back to the shop for a refund. Replaced with a 200t which hasnt faltered once in the 6months we've had it. 200t expensive... but they take some beating. Fuel and chain oil tanks are opposite to all the other saws we have, which is abit of a pain as if your filling all the saws at once its easy to put fuel and oil in the wrong way.

  13. Electrical shedder? you'll struggle to chip anything with those!
  14. Do you want a chipper? OR a shredder?
  15. Things i was picked up on were both related to warming up the 020 before i went up. I didnt use gloves, as i thought you dont need to, seeing as you dont have to use them when using the saw in a tree, but it was "brought to my attention" by the assessor that i did have to. Secondly i drop started the 020 from cold, as appose to starting it on the ground like your meant to with a ground saw. I thought because of the design of the 020, and seeing it had no back handle i could drop start it, like you do when your in a tree. Apparently not lol had to start it like you would a ground saw. hope that helps mate, good luck!
  16. I would imagine so, unless shes Ag registered? Meaning us young guns cant hope straight in there and drive her not legally anyway, gotta do my 7.5ton lisence jobby at some point.
  17. We would only ever leave a lowering line in, never climbing kit. This is normally tied up from the base of the tree so you have to climb up and get it anyway. Sorry to here about your kit though mate.
  18. What i do, whilst having the fire lit throughout the evening is place 2 or 3 large lumps of green oak infront of the fire. IMO they dry enough to be able to put on the fire before you go off to bed, and will burn all through the night. Maybe you could try this sorta thing yourself? Although with hornbeam in your case Tom
