  1. We mostly heat our house here using firewood, in a large stove with back boiler. With the amount we use, If we had to pay for the firewood at even the cheaper rates that get mentioned here, we would probably be using oil and the stove would only be for room heat and decorative purposes, and using more coal than logs. Luckily, we have our own forest so our firewood is 'free'. The problem is that the firewood merchant probably needs £100 a cube to make a reasonable profit, but I wonder how many people on this site would actually use firewood if they had to pay this?
  2. I did read it Maybe I was wrong, and 'shop your neighbour' is the way to grow your business after all.
  3. Maybe you should have a few beers yourself and chill out. You say your sales are down 60%. To be honest, if your attitude in the real world is anything like it is on this thread, then I'm not surprised. If word gets around locally that you have the HMRC on speed dial it wont help your business much either. You need to look at YOUR business and see what the best way forward is, and stop concerning yourself with what others are doing/not doing.
  4. Maybe the OP's 'start up business' is being a middle man that seeks out work, gets a contractor to do it and adds a % on top of the final price for himself. If this is the case, there isnt a whole lot wrong with it I suppose.
  5. So the man that pulled the wool over your eyes was not an Irish Traveller then, but a Yorkshire man.
  6. But if they were 'Travelling scum' why did you even think about doing the job
  7. Great old tractor, they were well ahead of their time with good solid cabs etc. As said, great yoke to pull too. The brakes were always the weak link in them, but if its priced right I would get it bought.
  8. Jason might well be better off, it must be bad enough working for someone with the mentality of the OP, but he also had the wife to deal with.
  9. There are a few 372's around alright, the 362 would be more common though. Plenty of non turbo 390's around too. Some very nice gear there, will make good money I'd say.
  10. In the event of an accident I'd prefer have an engine/chassis in front of me.
  11. Big job alright, to put in a spring that costs a few quid! Tractor has to be split anyway, if the clutch etc is anyway worn, change it while you are at it.
  12. Adding a conveyer triples the price though and brings you into s/h processor territory.
  13. Special offer at M Large at the moment.. http://www.donedeal.co.uk/plantmachinery-for-sale/new-greenmech-cs100-wood-chipper/6233210
  14. How times change, there was a time not so long ago if someone mentioned importing firewood on here they would be vilified!
  15. Very impressive kit Stephen. You might have mentioned it already, but what make is the grab?
  16. Scarce enough tractor there I'd say.
  17. Maybe its Robin Hood thats taking it
  18. I wouldnt read everything on here, I mostly keep to the Firewood Forum so I'm not really aware of a lot thats being discussed here. I think its very important on any forum though that all views are welcome, just because someone has a different opinion doesnt mean they are being 'Negative', it means they disagree with the other person and surely this is what a forum is all about I came across a thread the other night where the OP told another member that he didnt want him posting on his thread because he was bringing 'Negativity'. From what I could see the member was merely giving his opinion, I think if people start dictating that they only want back clapping replies, it would be a slippery slope.
  19. I think the OP could start a new trend... Builders Labourers running around sites with wheelbarrows, Removal men running back into the house to fetch the next box, Postmen running from door to door, shop assistants running down the aisle to restack the shelves... Run Forrest Run!
  20. I might be all wrong here, but they dont look like Irish Travellers to me.
  21. The fact that its not a genuine Honda engine would be enough to put me off.
  22. No, but I can see where some of the confusion comes from! Logs For Sale Westbeams
