  1. I have a small petrol pump that can be borrowed if the need arises. PM for tel number just in case.
  2. Not allowed to since we adopted the European Water Framework Directive (EWF). Can't mess with the river bed anymore but can build defences on the sides. "A watercourse needed to be big enough to take any water that flowed into it, otherwise it would overflow and inundate the surrounding land and houses. Every civilisation has known that, except apparently ours." Flooding cause that the Government would rather keep to itself - Chronicle Live
  3. Just two points to think about: It seems a shame that the Ifor trailer cannot hold standard pallets side by side. I am sure there must be a good reason but it is still a drawback. A ramp on the back might be good if you are a gardener loading stuff in and out all day every day, but for logs it prevents any loading machinery (fork lift etc) getting close enough.
  4. ...but you can get an exemption from Defra to use them on farm tracks etc (if using less than 100 ton pa I think). Imperative that the base is good, planings are great for topping off and leveling out undulations.
  5. Worked for me; I'm in. A very worthy cause so thanks for persevering Steve!
  6. Mast height. Essential if you have restricted access or want to load/unload containers
  7. Thanks for the link, nice to see their thoughts and experiences documented.
  8. We use one for processing wood into wood chunks for use in food smokers.
  9. It will come down to price not logic. You could replace the word "logs" in this thread with "steel", "electronics", "clothing" or "milk". It is our turn. For all the moans about RHI, at least the provenance of the wood is key criteria so supplying RHI consumers will always favour local producers. But for non RHI consumers, all the 'benefits' of a global market are landing on our shores daily and are here to stay. Will you compete or get out?
  10. Dig up some of that RHI money and get it spent!
  11. Agree with everything above. Burns well but doesn't like being left in the stack. Lovely to work with but don't hang around, get it processed, dried and burnt. We do quite a bit of our home grown Alder as wood chunks to be used in food smoking. Brits always seem to want Oak or Cherry but our eastern european friends always prefer alder. A much more subtle flavour apparently.
  12. Sorry if it is obvious but... As in the APF Show - What does APF stand for?
  13. Just got "Error establishing a database connection" from clicking the Arbtrader link
  14. Not any more. The last visitor spent 2 hours of my time (and a JCB loader) going through the log pile. Very happy with his finds but begrudged paying the few quid that it was worth as (wholesale) firewood. A total waste of time and effort in the extreme. Never again.
  15. Graham at Really Rustic does them and will send it through the post. https://www.facebook.com/Really-Rustic-380948932033282/?fref=ts
  16. It would be just the ticket for dragging brash?
  17. Do you think the taxman / mrs will let me have one? [ame= ] [/ame]
  18. We grow. dry and sell willow sticks: Straight wooden sticks, twigs and willow whips for florists and craft projects
  19. Took this one for our website. It was taken in our garden on a (new to me) DSLR which I am trying to master. I can't remember from one reading of the manual 'till the next what all the buttons and settings do'
  20. Fire was Hetas installed. The problem is that the extractor is a big commercial cooker hood over a big range cooker. If you switch it on full it will shut all the doors in the house. Sounds obvious now but it took a long time for the penny to drop.
  21. We suffered random problems for a year before discovering it was the cooker extractor that broke the equilibrium and assisted/created downward pressure in the flue. It was a good day when the penny dropped.

    Wages fair pay

Given the recent ruling for care workers travel time and the pending EU decision on mobile working, the arb industry may well get some clarification on this. See Mobile workers' first and last journeys count as working time | Personnel Today Will this change many peoples arrangements? Good or bad?
  23. I love my MB. 7000 hrs. Barn stored from new. Still got original tools in the original toolbox. No computers. The MF135 of grunt
  24. Looking for a Northern Ireland supplier of seasoned hardwood firewood. Customer is happy to take a lorry load at a time.
