  1. 99 times out of a 100, you are right. But the 1 time a device makes all the difference.
  2. It doesn't matter what species, split and seasoned those logs will keep you warm.
  3. Those GRX grabs are a formidable bit of kit.
  4. What is the small black one below the lung wort?
  5. Those bell chockers are not very good on small diameter wood, they have an annoying tendency to slip off. But they are much easier to unchock when you have pulled down a load of bramble with the timber.
  6. Having this at the end of the valley where we are working, was too good to miss. #Dullasditchwater
  7. £50-£70 roadside plus transport. If transport is more than £40 per tonne, then it is too far away. Do you have any forestry companies near you, try them first.
  8. Are there still the massive Elm trees near Brighton pavilion ?
  9. Sharpham Rustic, full fat Jersey milk, oh yeah. Or Caws Teifi Saval, rind washed caerphilly ,stinky but not overpowering like Stinking Bishop
  10. I've just had a felling licence granted for 12m3
  11. Just over tick over
  12. Its the Super Bullet Superbullet | Logbullet WWW.LOGBULLET.COM
  13. Good use of redirects, good vids.
  14. Aahh lightweight, coming on here with your cab with heater and air con. And you have the cheek to call us southerners Soft.
  15. It will be fine, there is a tractor and log bullet under this tree.
  16. Monterey cypress scruffy nature definitely holds itself together better with its tangled mass of deadwood and half snapped branches. As soon as you remove one another appears, so i have stopped removing them .
  17. At this time of year I would be starting with velvet shank.
  18. If it was me i would use the chain slots. A steel semi circle with chain bolted on to hang off the chain slots. You may need to weld on a support at the bottom of the semi circle to stop it tipping the trunk. Easy to take on/off as required. You might be able to do a similar thing with half a tyre. Or do it the old fashioned way, winch the trees onto bearers to keep them off the ground whilst you are processing .
  19. This the main issue, that nobody has any hard facts to make an informed judgement, and one that i have repeatedly brought up with the couple of working groups that i belong to. What has made a big difference to felling ash safely, is bluetooth comms. One felling and one or two watching for trouble as the tree goes over.
  20. We have had more issues with branches 'pinged ' back at you from the surrounding trees as the felled tree falls through the canopy.
  21. I work on averages. I know the average tree volume, and i know the average number of cut logs per tree. I also measure mid diameter of logs on the stack to work out average log volume, and count the number of logs in the stack, and times number by volume . It sounds alot but it doesn't take long, and gives you a sound footing when arguing the toss with miserly firewood buyers.
  22. It depends on how far gone it is. The Ash in my last 'snipping' video didn't seem much lighter, but it didn't go over a weigh bridge so i don't know. Thats why i always try a sell by volume.
  23. Thats £50-70 roadside, felling and extraction will be less
  24. £50-70 per tonne, depending on how desperate the buyer is. Dieback shouldn't affect the price unless it is mush, and then it won't hold together when you fell it.
  25. I would guess the new callus growth is not fissured enough to support moss getting established.
