    Given the shortage of softwood in the next 20-30 years, why in gods earth would you want to remove your softwood ? You sound like you have a good mix, which was planted for a reason. Keep thinning and your kids will reap the benefit.

    Both of those went wrong, as they both sheared off the stump and went sideways. Way too much lean, and not enough control.

    Just be careful about sweeping statements for power lines. If you don't know the difference between them, then you will get a belt. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.
