    Learn to say no. As a subbie you will be brought in to deal with dangerous/ difficult trees that they don't want to do. Always ask questions, you will be amazed at what gems you pick up from the most unexpected sources . Don't take on debt unless you are very sure.

    The frame was second hand, and i bought new plastic . It was a storm damaged frame, so a couple of the hoops were unusable .

    I use billets because I don't need expensive handling machinery to move potato boxes/vented log bags. A 3' billet can be cut in 6,9,12,& 18" logs, which is all the sizes i sell. Billets mean more manual handling, but it suits me.

    And if you can wait a bit, i have just started a block of beech which is the finest quality, and you won't get better in Wales.

    Dispite one of the wettest winters, my billets have remained below 20%. After a couple of hours sun, the logs feel warm to the touch, even on a frosty day. Good air flow helps, all for the bargain price of £500. I am going to have to get some flexible exhaust pipe, a Zetor in a confined space is not ideal.

    Strange that you said that, that the first thing everybody has said to me when they have seen it. I didn't want such a big tractor, but it has only done 1900 hours, and compared with everything else i looked at, it was a good deal.

    I think i am going to need a bigger timber trailer, this one looks a bit small behind my new tractor.

    Those are all valid points @doobin i have been sending back to Pekka when I have been modifying broken bits. Sometimes it does feel like it was made using shed technology, but once you have a couple of hundred hours it does get better, as you learn to work with in its limitations. A similar machine from Alstor or Kinetic is double the price. The main thing to remember is when it breaks Pekka always has spares, and compared to all my other machinery, it is ridiculous cheap to fix.

    When the arms On mine stopped working there was no orange light (under the red blob). I have no understanding of electronics, hence why i called in a mechanic. Have you checked the fuses under the steering wheel?

    It needed a new electric wire to complete the circuit . I am not sure what went wrong, as I went off to finish a tree survey, and left the mechanic to it. Post a picture with the ignition on of the 3 knobs near the back window .

    Have you got the little orange light next to the P symbol on the RH knob closest to the back window. Mine linkage stopped working when that light was off. It took ages to work that one out, a lot of head scratching from the mechanic.

    At the risk of stating the bleedin obvious, why not use your nice forwarder to move the timber to where you want before you cut it up?
