  1. Three sides, their side, your side and the truth ;-)
  2. We had this 23m truck mount 3.5 tonne. Good reach vertically and horizontal for this dead cedar that was dropping 8 inch diameter limbs, other side of tree had been cut back for power line clearance
  3. We use the sena 10s and it is pricey but very useful, especially on jobs near roads, with noisy machinery, or for example when you are winching, the guy cutting can communicate with the guy on the winch. They are not the best noise cancelling with the saws, but if you turn them down a bit it's fine. Once you have them set up they are great though, and easy to fit (we use flat mike under brow of helmet not boom mike) as this got in the way Only other draw back is you can occasionally knock clip that holds them on helmet with branches, so I am going to retro fit a small retaining clip so we don't have to play hunt the sena unit at the bottom of the tree! However I and the team would recommend them, never tried any other manufacturers though. Some jobs you wonder how you would have done it safely before having them. Can also play and share music and make calls on them through Bluetooth when you just hedge cutting etc
  4. What about shredded cardboard, had that in some packages and seems to be a good idea? Peter
  5. Evening all, my 2013 t6 ford ranger crew cab developed a leak in the oil seal on the back of the transfer box (between box and rear prop shaft) just after warranty expired. I paid a Ford dealership to sort as a special tool is needed that local dealer can't get. They did this and 10 months later it started leaking again. This time they changed seal, flange and spine inside, all sorted and no charge. All OK until last month, 6 months down the line. They have replaced seal again and again no charge, but have said they don't know why it's going and will not do for free again. Does anyone know of anything similar on other rangers, as not sure where to go from here. Thanks. Peter
  6. Pulled into this lane completely by chance when little one needed a wee on the way home from half term break
  7. Bump, anyone looking for a fresh start to 2018
  8. Our little home store which will hold two cubic metre bags, made with an oak frame and Larch cladding, just need to finish painting the house!
  9. Thank you, will look these up
  10. Can any one recommend a good book guide to basic timber structure construction, looking to build a timber framed and clad shed /cabin in our small family wood. Basic guide to joints, designs and timber sizes required would be helpful. Got plenty of timber and a Alaskan mill so all sorted there
  11. Lots of good methods here, side to side step, slings and my favourite - silky, I also on larger/ heavier branches will do the undercut (gob or straight cut) with the top handle then clip the saw on and use the silky for the top cut, leaving my other hand free to hold the branch as it snaps or hinges down
  12. Currently have two petzl as below but one has packed after many years service. What does anyone recommend from the petzl rechargeable ones? We use ours for at the yard tipping or finding tools at the end of the day if its run over. Wouldn't really want to do tree work with them, have done for emergency jobs but slows things down compared to daylight
  13. We buy it in the 200litre metal drum and then you don't have a load of plastic bottles to get rid of, just the one off cost of a barrel pump.
  14. A member of our small company has gone travelling with his other half for the foreseeable so we now have a vacant position for an experienced climber to join our team Our yard is located near Chorleywood in Hertfordshire, very close to j18 of the M25, and nearly all our work is 30 minutes or less away from the yard Our work load is continuing to grow and we are looking to expand from running a second team part time, to full time We mainly carry out domestic tree work, but are increasing the amount of commercial work we do for schools and property management companies Relevant climbing and chainsaw qualifications essential, driving license essential The vast majority of our work is repeat customers or recommendation, it is therefore essential that you work to a very high standard, from reductions of all sizes through to large take downs You must be able to work as part of our small friendly team, and good customer liason essential We have a wide range of modern equipment we use, some of our jobs can be seen on instagram pete20485 Would prefer employment rather than freelance, salary dependent on experience and qualifications Further training available for the right candidate Please contact me via pm, phone or email for more information 07763418069 or [email protected] Many thanks Peter Charlton PC Treescapes

  16. Hi Jim Don't know about the arb pro but we use the grcs for all our really big stuff, especially when needing lifting ability during rigging, the rest of the time we use a fixed stein bollard rc2001 as it is small, compact, easy to use and a lot lighter than the grcs, whilst still able to do big stuff in a very controlled manner Grcs goes through loler fine

  18. Got called to clear this from the road today by owner's neighbour as highways tree guys couldn't do it today. Back tomorrow with timber crane to clear remaining stems and canopy from bank and neighbours garden. Bad inclusion failed on twin stem despite being reduced three years ago to reduce wind loading and weight. Did have some really strong gusts in early hours today mind.
